Drive Recorder Option - Does the 5er have this?

I've seen this option in the 3 series configuration tool.

Drive Recorder - $100
Keep track of everything. The Drive Recorder makes it possible to record a video of the vehicle's surroundings at all times and play it back on the central information display. Essential vehicle information, such as speed and GPS position, are synced with the video for even further accuracy.

Does the 5 series come with this feature natively? It seems hard to believe that it isn't possible, given how much more advanced the new DAPP system is over the one currently in the 3 and 4 series.

I have it in my i5. I’ve used it to record trying out launch control.

Yes, G60 has it along with the "selfie", internal camera that can take pics and videos.

Thank you, Sir! I was just wondering if it would be useful in an accident situation, in lieu of a dashcam. Or if you actually have to turn it on with intent?

You do have to turn it on. I’d recommend a dash cam for accidents.

For accident, my personal experience…. The dashcam aka driving recorder is good enough to let insurance company know if you are at fault or not at fault… however, in the case of hit and run, you can not tell the plate number. It is NOT clear enough. If hit and run is your concern, I highly recommend buying a 2k/4k dashcam from Amazon.

You don’t have to turn it on per se. You do need to enable it initially upon delivery, but it can be set to automatically store 20-30 seconds of footage both before and after an accident is detected. It can also be triggered manually by holding down the surround view camera button.
