Perimeter fob recognition change?

Has anyone else noticed that since the last OTA update they their 2024 5 series doesn’t light up/activate until you are about 5-10 feet away? Mine used to wake up when I was about 15-20 feet away. (I have nothing in my pocket blocking my fob to shorten the range.)

Why are you still carrying that bulky key fob? The phone-based digital key works pretty reliably and if, for any reason, it didn't, you have the wallet digital key card as a backup.

Because I always have my iPhone on me, and my car sits too close to my house in my driveway and when I walk past it. Annoys the shit out of me when it constantly recognizes my phone.

Turn off the auto open if your car has it. Solves that problem

I know that can be done. But that isn’t why I posted. I am wondering if anyone noticed a difference in distance since the last OTA update, nothing more.

I have not measured it but it seems like the car recognizes my phone later than it used to.

It makes me wonder. I know others have posted that same problem. Could it be that it is reducing the range that sets it off because it opened/locked x amount of times without the door being opened. Maybe a BMW Genius would know. I wonder if rebooting I-Drive would reset it back.

I’ve not noticed any perceivable difference pre/post OTA update in my iPhone being recognized by the car. YMMV of course.

So the i7 has an option that allows you to turn off the perimeter function when “At Home”. I wonder if they could push a software update that allows the i5 to do the same thing.

If the car knows how to self park at a particular place, like your house, all it should need is proper coding- if they have the will they can do it.

I also noticed today that after a while away, the car no longer unlocks when I approach it. It will unlock about 5-8 seconds after I put my hand in the door handle, but it will not "notice" that I am nearby after a while. I'm not sure if it is just time-based, or if it only does that after a certain number of "false" unlocks and locks.

Maybe I'll have to do some testing to figure it out. I know that used to happen after a while with my phone nearby for too long, but it did not react this way before the latest update.

Weird. Mine has actually improved after the update. It was acting like yours before for me. But, I have the weird comfort exit thing that no one else has. I can’t explain why people have different results from the same software.
