BMW Turbo back-order on G12 B7

Hello,

I know this is a long-shot, but has anyone had luck finding a turbocharger for a G12 B7?

My car has been at the dealership for the last 2 months while the turbo is on back order. Today I learned the turbo is not expected to be in stock until December (9 month back order). I suppose there are worse problems but I’d really like to avoid my car sitting at the dealership for 7 more months. Getting worried the car sitting for so long is also going to turn into more problems.

Are the insisting on a factory part, or will they consider something else? Something aftermarket, that is. May be a gamble on your part as well, if you have to agree warranty on the labor but not warranty on the part (or the labor to replace the part again if ended).

If an alternate is an option I'd consider giving these guys a call, see if they can provide something: https://www.pureturbos.com/

what happened to the original turbo? If it needs a rebuild, I'd send it to Track/S , he's done two sets for us so far and fantastic quality.

Thanks for the reply and info. My SA is reaching out to their parts rep to see if any other options are available. I’m still under extended warranty so an aftermarket rebuild might not be an option but I did let my SA know I’d be happy with a rebuild now as opposed to new one in 7 months. He told me even the one they will eventually get from BMW will likely be a rebuild as well. Basically, Garrett and Borg Warner no longer make this turbo. He thinks they are trying to source a new manufacturer but said not a lot of information is available.

I'd be OK with a rebuild from a good company. They are almost certainly going to replace everything that spins and just reuse the housings on each side, and they don't go bad.
