Read this article on BMW

Apparently I am not the only one who thinks that BMW are arrogant.

Any journalist that campares something to a "flying vagina" is certainly insane.

this is exactly what a lot of people are trying to do these days. by criticizing everything and anything, they think they speak the truth and things how they are. negativity and hyperbolic sarcasm always dominate those reviews which people find fascinating only because of the cheap humor the writers attempt to pass along. there is no truth to that, only desperate need for attention (which is ultimately translated into money).

you can see that Simon Cowel is so hugely popular just for that same reason. also, a lot radio personalities choose this path nowadays and it never ceases me to amaze me how many people still fall for it.

One thing I notice about this forum is how everybody is so sensitive to criticism. You just cannot say anything bad about BMW. Maybe Farago exaggerates a bit sometimes, but the fact remains that BMW are arrogant. Everybody here is brainwashed in believing that BMW is without any flaws.
Criticism is a good thing, look at GM if they would have listen to all the critics they would probably be in a better situation at this time. Mercedes had one of the worst customer service and look at what happen as soon as Lexus started building cars that were similar to Mercedes people started buying them (plus Mercedes had reliability issues). BMW are known for their driving dynamics so if any other manufacturer succeeds in doing the same and offer better customer service, BMW will lose customers.

I beg to differ with your observation. I think some people here do accept criticism. Some of us do acknowledge that our cars albeit being the ultimate driving machines do have some flaws.
Sometimes we wonder what the Engineers were thinking, we have polls on what we would like to see being improved upon.
We are a demanding set of people, and I for one will say it as it is.

You are absolutely right, criticism is good, especially when it is done professionally. And that means being positive and professional about it. I do not subscribe to it in any inflammed, profane or derogatory form.
With respect to the article, I think the author Robert Farago and his team needs to refine their language. We certainly do want children injecting such words into their lexicon, with the thinking that it is widely accepted.

To label one entire group of people anything is ignorant. Do you even read half of the threads here? They are bitching about this and that, either it doesn't work or should be different/better according to the poster. I think that car owners are the first to point out the car's flaws. I would take the word over someone that has put 20-30K miles on thier car VS some guy with an agenda.

And what exactly is wrong with the word vagina......

It is neither a swear word nor slang, it is in fact a clinical term for part of the human body.

Now we may or may not agree with the contextual use of vagina by TTAC, but frankly, the reaction by BMW NA is plain stupid.

And that is my opinion of course.

If you people look all the treads I started you will notice that I criticised the interior of the car and BMW customer service, which by the way is terrible (if you notice the administrators even closed the tread, where is the freedom of speach). All the replies I got were from people who did not except my criticism. This looks like a forum so people can feel good about the purchase they made and anybody who questions anything is not welcomed.

that's funny because i was not referring to BMW at all. i was trying to point out the fact of today's poor, unskilled and flawed so-called journalists.

watching "good night and good luck" made me go back and view some of the older news reports and see what it was really like. i found a lot of very quality articles and reports that state opinions based on facts, not personal feelings, that report the news and review products because of their pure passion for the job, not to get as many hits as possible or to cause as much controversy as possible.

it seems like it is you who is throwing things in one bag and labels them rather than any other member on this board. i've critiqued many things about BMW and would never state "BMW is perfect." however, if i read that someone gives a car bad ratings just because it reminds them of a vagina or calls M5's SMG box the worst in the world just for the writer's inability to achieve smooth shifts in a 500hp luxury sedan is simply highly unprofessional and immature.

Yup, another "journalist" trying to stand out from the crowd by bring controversial.... saying things or expressing views for the entertainment value.

Two bits of bad news for him:

1) Jeremy Clarkson beat him to it.
2) Lightning doesn't strike twice in the same place.

I´m working with the assumption English is a second language, so we should give him a free pass on spelling as some people here whose native language is English make far more spelling mistakes.

Today, unfortunately, with the Web, anyone can be a "journalist". Doesn´t matter if anyone readers the stuff...

And the line between news and entertainment was blurred eons ago - someone else in this thread was pointing out the movie Good Night and Good Luck. Yes, the world was much simpler (technologically speaking) in the 1950s but that doesn´t mean that we should give up on journalistic integrity today. If you watch the nightly newscasts in the U.S. - and compare them to German newscasts - the fluff factor becomes readily apparent.

I enjoy the TTAC website. I do however take them with a huge grain of salt. Either they love a car or they pan it. Part of what makes them entertaining. I don't agree with what they think of the Tribeca's front end, it's a stupid and childish comparison.

Now mainstream Car journalists aren't as fun to read, but generally cars are neither as bad as TTAC make them out to be, or as good.

It is true, all you need is a server and you can portray yourself as a specialist.

BMW doesn't want hacks reviewing their cars. Imagine this, "The new Z4 has a nose reminiscent of a big p*nis in a cheap porno" or something of that tenor. Sorry, but that isn't serious car journalism. If I'm BMW I want serious journalists reviewing my cars, and heaven knows there enough of those, who give honest and thoughtful reviews.

I say screw TTAC.

I might agree with you that some of the posts and threads on this site are biased and fanboy-ish toward BMW. But hey, this a site for people who are interested mainly in the E90 variants as well as other BMWs. Most of the people who post here are BMW owners and many of them are repeat BMW owners. We like our BMWs. Hell I LOVE mine. So what's wrong if the people who post here want to feel good about their cars???? I don't see a problem.

What's important about this site is that it's not JUST a E90 / BMW feel good
forum. There's a lot of good, factual INFORMATION that is shared here for anyone who's interested. I'm very thankful for this forum, it's helped me a great deal with my purchase choice and continues to be a valuable resource.

I disagree that anyone who questions anything about BMW on here is not welcomed. There's a lot of questioning going on here. It's one of the things I've come to appreciate about the forum.

To me TTAC is acting like a spoiled kid who's mad cause BMW won't play their game ... so they're throwing a tantrum. This is hardly the PR disaster TTAC is trying to make it out to be.

The real arrogance is for TTAC to think their opinions and their readership is so consequential they can do serious damage to a company like BMW.

vagina monologue

I don't find comparison of a Tribeca to a "flying vagina" offensive except that it probably doesn't move fast enought to fly. More like a trolling vagina (ewww).
Perhaps TTAC (The truth about cars) should be called DORC
(Derogatory opinions regarding cars).
