Iconic Glow Kidney Grille Retrofit
**Title: Is it Possible to Retrofit the Iconic Glow Kidney Grille on the Same BMW Model?**
Hi everyone, I'm considering upgrading my BMW and I'm particularly interested in the Iconic Glow Kidney Grille. However, my current model doesn't have it installed. Has anyone here successfully retrofitted the Iconic Glow Kidney Grille on the same g60 model? Any insights or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance |

I've got the silver grille and ordered the replacement in the black kidney grille from my local BMW parts dealership who said it was coming direct from Germany in about 30 days. As soon as it arrives I will document it all as I am curious what the wiring job will look like. Hopefully it is straight forward to remove as I cant see anything online for disassembly of this model yet.

I’m trying to do the exact same thing. Dealer said it’s a 6 week minimum to get the grill from Germany. Did you get it yet?

Hi All,
I was about to swap standard grille for iconic glow grille and when looked on my car they seem to be different. Iconic Glow grill (part number 51118084674) have an extra triangle where original one is without it. Can someone advise if there is possibility to swap them without modification to front bumper? Thank you, |

I think the difference may be if you have the MSport package or not. The Black grille is designed for the MSport Fascia which has the large black insert , not the standard Fascia, where it is body color all the way around the kidneys. I am not sure if the triangle you are showing fits on top of, butts up to, or fits behind the fascia.

This part is covered by the front bumper, by the way I'm searching a TUTO (Pictures, PDF or Video) for the removal of the Kidney Grill.
If one you could help it will be great |

Ok, just did the whole swap...quite the adventure.
My G60 ice came with the silver grille (m-sport) shown in the pic. The NEW m-sport grille # 511180846674 has the Iconic kidney glow. NOTE! The center cover in the grille (shown missing in the photo) does NOT come with the bumper!! If your car has the sensor behind it (as shown in the pic) this cover has a Heater Element in it and cost $300 to replace. ( I chose to have my original one painted) If your car does NOT have the sensor, part # 51138084692 is just the plastic cover alone, about $60. What else you'll need: a 3 pin connector you can find online (the one in my pic I had in my inventory and made it myself), the connector alone is aftermarket, # pa6-gf15 2208316 (google it). It is used as a parking sensor and other bmw devices and is only $1 on aliexpress. The wire with the Black tape, pin 3 is ground....the other 2 are power to the led lights. So getting the grille off involved removing the 4 push pin tabs under the hood and removing the top panel to expose the grille clips. Then releasing the top 4 clips and (very important) each side clip (1 on the left and 1 on the right) then the grille will come out with some effort but first.... NOTE: the bottom center part (triangle shape portion) of the grill is BEHIND the OEM bumper, so you will have to pry that small bumper piece back/away a little to get the grille out! Be smart and put plenty of painters tape along the edge where the bumper meets the grille as to NOT scratch the bumper paint upon removing the grille as it is a tight squeeze to remove it by yourself. Maybe have a helper pull the center bumper back while you pull the grille out. The center cover has a small 2pin connector you disconnect, as does the small backup camera and washer nozzle so unhook those connectors too. Now the fun part... if you want the leds to simply come on whenever the car turns on just connect pin 3 to ground, and the 2 other wires (pin 1 & 2) to ignition power someplace (like a fusebox,etc.). But if you want the OEM experience read on... Run the 2 remaining wires from the new grille connector you have down the pass side engine bay and there is a silver wrapped hose that goes down into the wheel liner. Remove (7) 10mm plastic bolts of the liner to give access in there and you'll find a 1 inch rubber grommet that goes into the pass. floor interior. Remove the pass kick panel to expose the BCP and disconnect plug #3 circled in green.(see pic) Insert the 2 wires, pin1 goes to connector pin 52, and pin 2 goes to connector pin 40. You can get 2 new wire pins online to insert into the connector (again I have them in my workshop) and they are the same pins found in the led grille 3pin new connector....so you could just get 2 of those connectors and de-pin one of them. Reinstall OEM connector 3 into BCP. Last step, get ahold of your CODER guy (mine cost me $200) and he can access your vehicle via laptop and a OBD cable to add the Iconic menu option in about 10 min. and you're done! Does anyone know if BMW dealers will do this fit for you?
I would like the iconic glow, but I have seen EU spec cars with it on the silver grill (I actually prefer the silver), it isn't available in the UK without MSport Pro, but if there is a part number for the silver glow grill could/would a dealer order and fit? |

Someone was able to get the OEM LED grille retrofitted for the G70 7 series and had their dealer wire it up for them. It was literally like $2k for labor alone.......I'm sure the 5 series is similar.
As Todd mentioned, get this optioned from the factory or you are going to pay to play.

That is way more work than I would try myself. I just know that if I tried it, I'd probably break off at least half of the clips needed to secure the grill, or do some other major damage to parts somehow. Kudos to you for doing it yourself aaexpert !

We can't get the silver iconic glow grill which I have seen on EU spec cars which is the part number I would want to get hold of. Can only get the black one from factory as part of MSport Pro - I don't really like the look of extended shadowline or red calipers so i just put the 20's on as an option and left pro. ANyway, very impressive job fitting it and coding it yourself! |
