Door panel "buttons"
Do customers like the lock/unlock haptic feedback flat buttons on the door panel? It’s a cleaner aesthetic look, yes, but I saw a review state that it’s tough to find the sweet spot between not pressing hard enough and pressing too hard that the door panel moves and creaks. Thoughts from experience? Thanks all!

You're correct. You have to press pretty hard to lock/unlock the doors. Not particularly well executed. All the door mounted buttons are like that. It would be nice if they were more responsive to a lighter touch, but they're not.

It’s a little hit and miss for me to unlock, but OK. I haven’t experienced the “press too hard/creaking” issue though. Same with the haptics in the center console (which seem to be more effective)

I've had very few problems with the door lock function in its new form using a gentle touch. The biggest problem is getting used to a very different car from the G-30 in almost every way possible.

I have door lock/unlock set up in iDrive the way I like, so I have honestly never used the lock/unlock "button".
But the seat SET and then memory presets are the same and they are a PITA, especially whilst driving. You have to press kind of hard, in the right spot and I feel my finger moves on them. I have not read a single car review in years and years without saying customers WANT physical buttons, and yet physical buttons are almost extinct. |

I’d say this is my experience. At times it’s been tough to unlock, other times a simple press works fine.

I set up door locks to unlock when I put the car in park, and then unlock all doors upon approach. So far, I have not once needed to manually unlock the back seat or front passenger doors.

I’m using unlock every day so my husband can put his crutches in the back seat. No problems, no creaking noises. Maybe because I’m female and have a lighter touch?

The buttons are definitely hit or miss…with lots of misses. Not reliable at all and if I had to lock/unlock in an emergency I can see them being a risk. It’s compounded by not having comfort access on the rear doors. They should have went full capacitance touch.

I have that set up as well. But when I am in the car and then exit, the back door is locked unless I hit the unlock button on the door panel. There is no way around that, correct?

You can set the doors to all unlock when the car is put into park (in the iDrive settings).

These “buttons” are garbage. I cannot reliably press them without really focussing on what I’m doing and even then it takes couple tries usually. They look good, but are super annoying. My wife also has some choice words for them…

As for lock and unlock, I don’t really use them except to lock myself in the car if a passenger gets out to go into a store or such and I don’t. (My anti-carjacking mentality of locking myself in … lol.) |

What makes me super confused is that I have never read a single article or car review asking to add more haptic controls and remove buttons. Boomer, Gen Z, Gen X, millennials....all prefer buttons!! |

I agree that they are not as easy to use as mechanical buttons, but I've gotten used to them. Once I realized that they require no pressure to activate I just hold my finger on the button and if it doesn't activate within a second then I just roll my finger a little and it activates. It seems completely touch sensitive - no real pressure required. I think that is confusing to many people because when you think of a button, you think of pushing on it.

Thanks for the suggestion, it has been working much better with a light touch. Has the same sensitivity as the other buttons, which makes sense.
