Sport Mode Ambient Lighting Change
In the G60, has anyone found a way to change the Sport Mode ambient lighting from the Red/Blue combination to any other color?

I think the only mode you can customize is “Personal”

As said above, as far as I know only personal mode allows ambient light adjustments.

It's in the manual that ambient light colors can only be changed in "Personal" mode.

Am I the only one who finds these modes (on 8.5) poorly done? I could do just fine without any change on the display unless I have control over what is displayed. I'd be fine to simply have the different driving modes being totally mechanical without any change in graphics on the display or lighting changes.
To be fair I just got a new 540 and left a G-30 so I may be missing a way to make the 8.5 modes go away. |

Ambient Lighting
Is there a way to just turn it off altogether in all modes? I really liked it in the G30, and expected to have some control over color, brightness in the G60. The goofiest thing to me is when it is animated. Rather have nothing at all. But....that's just me.

Yes, you can go to interior lighting and navigate to ambient lighting and change color, dim during night time or just turn it off I think. Personal mode only, maybe?

don't mean to state the obvious, but who drives a BMW in sport mode and looks at the ambient lighting? eyes should be on the road, yes?
(oh great... now I'm starting to sound like my grandpa) |

The best part of sport mode is the MyVehicle display turns into sport gauges. I look at those. You can’t see them in any other mode.

I'm sure by now you have already received the answer you were looking for, but I wanted to elaborate on this a little further! As of now (3.31.24), the following vehicles with iDrive 8.5 CANNOT separate the Driving Modes and the Ambient Lighting color: (e.g., If you have the ambient lighting color in PERSONAL set to "Emerald" (Green), switching to Sport will change the ambient lighting color to Red/Blue - rather you like it or not) - 5 Series (incl. i5) - 7 Series (incl. i7 and 750e) - iX - X1 (incl. X1's with iDrive 8 and iDrive 9) - X2 (iDrive 9) NOTE: The X1 and X2 now come with iDrive 9, but I wanted to include them on this list, because the driving mode and ambient lighting color cannot be separated in these models too. As of now (3.31.24) , the following vehicles with iDrive 8.5 CAN have the Driving Modes and Ambient Lighting colors separated from each other: (e.g., If your favorite color is "Papaya" (Orange), and you have "Driving Mode" in the Ambient Lighting menu disabled, then switching to ECO Pro will result in the Ambient Lighting mode not changing, thus the color will remain as "Papaya" (Orange) - i4 - X5 (incl. X5e and X5M) - X6 (incl. X6M) - X7 (incl. Alpina XB7) - XM The remaining vehicles NOT listed above have either iDrive 7 (I'm sure many would love to go back to this) or iDrive 8 and the driving modes have no impact on the Ambient Lighting Color! Now, "Does it get any worse?" you ask and the answer is ABSOLUTELY! - Several colors like "Indigo" and "Lavender" just to name a few, are absent on iDrive 8 equipped 3 and 4 series, meanwhile both colors (named Blue and Lilac respectively) were color choices on iDrive 7 equipped 3 and 4's.... Lastly, in my honest opinion, I think the Ambient Lighting design in the current (MY24) 530i (MY24 i5's and 540i's receive the Ambient Lighting Interaction Bar) is a complete joke and somewhat insulting.... I'd rather have the ambient lighting in the MY23 5's! I also do NOT like how changing the driving mode will change the layout of the instrument cluster, and in some cases, it will change the content within the instrument cluster itself.... ?? Like NO, can you just make my car drive more efficient or more sporty and that's it?? BMW has been doing "too much" lately and there are a lot of inconsistencies between their models Anyways, that's all I have to say. I think BMW should let folks choose their own color and call it a day. A good idea would be a "rainbow" mode, where the ambient lighting will cycle through a series of colors in a fade like fashion (e.g., Green -> Aqua -> Blue -> Purple etc.) Anyways, Y'all be easy and stay safe out there! |
