BMW 5 Series Touring - start of production at Plant Dingolfing
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com New BMW 5 Series celebrates start of production at Plant Dingolfing +++ Now fully electric as well +++ BMW i5 Touring is Lower Bavarian plant’s fourth electric model +++ Approx. 80 million euros invested +++ Dingolfing. BMW Group Plant Dingolfing has today celebrated the official start of production for the new BMW 5 Series Touring. The newcomer is the first premium vehicle in its segment to feature not just a petrol, diesel or plug-in hybrid drive but also a fully electric one. That makes the BMW i5 Touring the fourth all-electric model to enter series production at Plant Dingolfing in not even three years. “Our BMW 5 Series Touring is especially important for Germany and the European market, and a lot of customers have been waiting for it,” said Plant Director Christoph Schröder. But at the end of May, the wait will be over, because that’s when the new Touring – now in its sixth generation – will reach dealers’ showrooms and the first cars are handed over to customers. The new model is already available to order now. Since launching the first generation in 1991, Plant Dingolfing in Lower Bavaria has been the sole producer of the BMW 5 Series Touring, with more than 1.2 million rolling off its production lines over the years. Like its predecessor, the new BMW 5 Series Touring – irrespective of drive – is manufactured flexibly alongside the BMW 5 Series Sedan and BMW 4 Series and 6 Series models, all on a single production line. Investments in the plant for the new BMW 5 Series Touring amount to approx. 80 million euros. “For us here in Dingolfing, the BMW 5 Series is part of our DNA,” explained Plant Director Christoph Schröder, “and the launch of the new Touring represents the next step in the renewal of our successful model series.” Last year BMW 5 Series vehicles accounted for about a third of output from Dingolfing. But with the Touring now available, numbers could rise significantly in 2024, potentially nearing the 50 percent mark.

The overuse of black plastic makes me scratch my head. Even on my own car, it is scratched to hell.

Great looking touring. Looking forward to the M5. BMW always seems to design the Touring THEN the sedan.

I was today at the BMW Welt. Got to see the new i5 Touring in person and I have to say it is amazing! Way cooler than the comparable E Class.
Also I have a picture. I hope you dont mind my father standing in front of it🙈 |

I appreciate BMW taking risks in styling, as I respect those who go their own way (companies, too), but I really don't get what the designers were thinking overall. The car has many awkward angles, and "sport" is not the first thing that comes to mind when I see one. The G31 has a few awkward angles, too, but the overall design is proportionally harmonious, and in the M-Sport and M trims, looks purposeful. This? Hm... |

Alright, I’ll put it simply.
Why is BMW working so hard to ruin every vehicle? |

I will never buy a BMW with this design language if I could afford a Porsche.
Takes me back to a decade of tacky designs from Kia and Hyundai, exterior-interior you name it. In the guise of modernization that’s the best they could come up with. It will eventually grow on people when they see it all too often but that doesn’t mean it’s a good thing off the bat. The touring looks handsome though, only slightly. Had a G60 loaner for 2 days, not a big fan. My G30 feels older in comparison but the G60 cannot woo me, it’s a very confused car, fewer and fewer German design genes.

Remove the two back doors and it takes on the form of an AMC Gremlin.
Be careful BMW - these design trends and shiny black plastic pieces will not create future classic vehicles. A bit too trendy for me |
