BMW i5 FLOW NOSTOKANA Art Car - fascinating color changing exterior

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Quote:
For Stella Clarke, the concrete idea of colour change in a car was inspired by a fascination for the technology of colour change. This fascination sparked Stella’s exploration into E Ink, starting with simple prototypes that over time have developed into something far greater.

The BMW i5 Flow NOSTOKANA brings together innovation and traditional art in a very special way.

I’m really curious to see how this tech progresses. I imagine repairs/maintenance will be a pain point for the wallet, but no more wraps in the future sounds interesting too.

Two points.

1. This outside-the-box thinking is rare. I am very confident this is a play in order to boost ESG scores. Good for them, I suppose...

2. It's also very cool. Gimmicky, but cool and something not seen before.

Such a great idea and even better to see it in action. Maybe that will be an option in the near future - we’ll be able to select the paint color of our cars on the fly similar to the way we change the color for our ambient interior lighting. It’ll be an “Individual color change” option for $20k

As a fan of the art cars I'd like to see this one in person, and it's great to see the look back to Esther Mahlangu's E34.

That's cool as hell, really happy that BMW has kept the art car project going all these years. G60 art car looks great.

I have teslas for many years and never had a serious issue. Electric cars don’t have many parts. Having said that I suggest leasing bmw EVs rather than buying them. They are new to the game and rapidly changing.

Oh no, I meant the color changing tech. Though I’m not personally ready to make switch to EV, I have faith that BMW will do well there too.

These art cars are super interesting. I really like how there’s a connection to the past with the E34 5 series art car.

Definitely super cool. I can’t even begin to imagine what a repair would cost on something like this. It must be crazy.

Let's not forget that BMW started selling an all-electric car over 10 years ago (the i3). Not sure I'd agree that BMW are new to the game.

Not a fan at all. Expensive technology, will probably don't cope well with +10yr of UVA/B from standing unprotected in the sun and, actually, just not interested at all in this.

I have driven i3 and owned an i8 for 4 years. If you own tesla you would be agree with me that tesla still is the benchmark for the EV car. I own both ix and tesla now, ix is much better “car”but tesla is a galaxy ahead in terms of software, app, ease of charging and ease of use.

Ahhhmm, I'll say it again:

Beautifully designed car looks good in any color
A decent looking car looks good in many colors
An ugly design is palatable in dark colors

The front facia does not appeal to me as it reminds me of whalesharks feeding with open gaping mouths. Now the M3/M4 look more desirable to me at least IMHO.

...I never thought about it before watching the New Klase color changing car introduction, but the intersecting triangles necessitated for curving the color changing panel wraps has a similarity in pattern to the grill pattern of hte iX ... perhaps.

This is coming along well over the years. There is a lot of money to be made here for BMW with people who can buy custom designs from them and upload them to the car along with creating their own. Or paying BMW to unlock a new color option etc.

I’d get it if it was durable to handle weather, road debris etc. or at least make sure it can be PPFed.
