Home charging and preconditioning

Do folks leave their level 2 charging cable plugged in when home even if the car is at target so that any preconditioning doesn't drain the battery? I couldn't tell if the best plan is to charge and then disconnect it or just leave the cable connected till I am ready to leave.

My understanding is that you leave it plugged in at home so that any pre-conditioning your car will do does not drain the battery.

That's great to hear, I'm going to test that today.

Here is a somewhat random but relevant video that discusses this too.

I’ll say preconditioning the cabin doesn’t really drain the battery much (maybe I lose 1-2mi range, but no change in SOC), so I don’t bother leaving it plugged into the charger.

Yes, you plug it in to precondition and use your house electric. My husband’s Lightning gets the plug, though.

Preconditioning while plugged in worked really well. It was all set to go at the right time and fully charged. Definitely a good move.

I leave the car plugger in until I leave and after preconditioning is done. Really just a preference and I live in the northeast where it can get chilly over night still.
