2nd Drive of an M60- Steering Question?
I have a 23 G30 and just took another drive in an G60 that I loved initially for its compliant ride, driving position, and comfy seats (Normal sport seat). MPG continued to be very good. I like this car but had a steering question.
The steering feels too light compared to my G30. Is this good or bad- The turns or inputs are very small, meaning if I just turn the wheel slightly it will turn. Fast responsive steering but I think I prefer more of a dead spot or safety zone. I almost feel that the G60 steering is too responsive. Is there such a thing? I love and hate it. My older 2015 328D had a similar responsive feel, but it is also easy to drift into another lane if you are not paying full attention. What are your thoughts on the steering? Perhaps the OP meant G60 rather than M60

Interesting as there hasn’t been too much mentioned about steering in reviews
I think numb steering and over assistance seems to have been a trend especially since EPS came in For what is such an important part of a car as we are contact with it 100% of the time . This worth a read if you haven’t already seen it https://arstechnica.com/cars/2022/01...-that-matters/ I’ve also wondered why no one has ever come up with a “tune” for electric power steering Companies cater for engines, suspension but steering , I’m not aware of any which I oddd as it is so much part of the driving experience |

OOPs. I meant to say G60. Yes, the steering felt too light but at the same time too responsive if that means anything?

Question: On my G30 the steering is light but on the G60 lighter. My question is when I set my settings on the G30 for steering (Menu for car and settings) listed as "sport" (Steering). The actual steering still is light but when I select the actual sport mode on the car it seems to get stiffer. Wouldn't that setting in the car menu give me the same stiffness as when I am driving in sport mode?

This is an interesting topic and one that doesn’t get discussed much which is surprising given we talk about suspension: handling power but not the main control that we interface with the car
So interesting that bmw have chosen to make the steering lighter , at least in non sport mode . This seems to be a trend over the years I’m sure anyone used to cars today would be shocked at how heavy the steering is in a e39 for example Despite it being lighter, is there any more feedback or is it numb? The g30 m550 I have which I have set up with sport steering is ok , but numb and not a lot of feed back . I always come back to how good it could be say in a e39 but unfortunately those days are long gone . Certainly be interested to hear more about the steering feel and feedback |

I’ve been thinking a lot about this in the last few days. Coming from a 2024 535 with dynamic handling, the steering is significantly lighter and less communicative on my i5 m60. I don’t always mind the lightness but there’s a vagueness on center that I’m not used to yet.
