1,200 mile break-in period for 540i
I thought read that the break-in period is 1,200 miles for the 540i. Meaning do not exceed 4,500 RPM or 100mph.
Anyone know if that is in fact the case? |

The manual will state but can’t think why it wouldn’t be just like previous cars

do cops in Ohio pull over driver who exceed 100mph when the car is still within the break-in period?
true story: my friend was given a speeding ticket near Cleveland. 11mph in a 5mph zone.(parking lot of a state or city park that was completely empty) He went to traffic court(or magistrate?) and it was dismissed because the officer admitted that the park was empty at the time(except the defendant and the police car). I thought my friend was kidding when he told me, but he showed me the ticket. |

when I was young, I used to drive from NYC or DC to Chicago. That meant having to drive through PA. I got pulled over at least twice. Mostly my fault because I was doing over 90mph. However, the cop was nice and even told me straight up why I was targeted: "we like pulling over cars with out-of-state plates because they rarely come back to fight the tickets" I paid the $250+ ticket by mail(this was before the internet was invented) and fortunately, PA was nice enough not to forward the record to my state's DMV. |

If the car allows you to exceed any limit, it's probably safe. BMW wouldn't risk users accidentally not following the manual and breaking the engine. lets be honest, most of us don't read manuals. So, if your car allows you to surpass 4500 RPM or 100 mph from day 1 , it's probably okay to do so.

Over the first few hundred miles, the tires and brakes get used to their task. It's best to avoid kick-down and full throttle.
But you don't have to. I do it. Always! https://www.bmw.com/en/automotive-li...a-new-car.html Last edited by OHV_44; 02-03-2024 at 02:42 PM.. |

the break in recommendations should be in the owner's manual for sure.
tires, brakes and especially the ENGINE should be broken in properly. it pisses me off when i see youtube reviewers borrow cars from dealerships with next to no miles and constantly try to get the 0-60 times on their dragys... will the car break? probably not, but who knows what it will do to it in the long run. |

yeh that is very wrong for someone to do to a new car.
Just shows ignorance and seflishness . If a new owner wants to do that to tehir own car, thats their privilege. But don't do it to what will become someones elses new car. |
