I personally was looking for a daily comfortable fun car, especially coming from 3 straight Model S. I have an upcoming 17 year old driver and am not comfortable having him learn/drive a very fast Tesla as his first vehicle. I learned on a 1980 Chevy. LOL.
Glad it scored better in the "daily" area, but kinda weird some of the cars he compared it to. 2022 MB EQS /BMW i7/ 2021 Tesla Model S Plaid. Just doesn't seem like that should be compared to each other.

Definitely comparable to EQS. The i7 is a little too luxe and not even in the same price range. The Tesla is modern simplicity inside, not as techno as the i5. I felt it compared better to the Lucid Air Grand Touring which has leather, interior options, glass or metallic roof, superb sound system, and drive modes similar to the i5.

I've been waiting for Doug's review. He's always pretty even handed and has a lot of experience with different cars. His perspectives on the styling is spot on, as new BMW designs are usually disliked, until they are loved and revered. People are out there singing the praises of the Bangle E60 these days.

He's really in to self driving tech, and I suspect that it was not equipped with the upgraded system. Had he tested the M60 with the Driving Assistance Pro, his score would have certainly been higher. Interesting how much more he praised it over the MB EQE for build and material quality, given that's such a common complaint here, myself included (at least material quality).

He does do great reviews; however, I can’t stand how he alters his voice now. If you look at some of his earliest videos, he used to talk completely normal. Either way, he covers just about everything on his reviews which is great.

100%
I stopped watching his videos over his voice and intonations! He is one of the better, and more informed online reviewers, but I cannot take the voice!

I just now pulled up a video from him from 2013. WOW! Normal voice and behavior. His voice and behavior to me is clown like now!

I believe this is still very fast car for a 17 year old driver. I just test drove it. Its fast and big. You should go for i4 for your young driver.

Ahh the good old days when car reviews were about how well a car drove instead of how well it drives itself…😂

Probably following some YouTube infinite money algorithm but... yeah, I blocked his channel because it's absolutely grating to listen to his content anymore.

Wow I’m glad I’m not the only one that can’t stand this weirdo. It’s like he’s creating content for toddlers with that voice.

For those (like myself) who cannot stand more than 2 seconds of Slug Demuro I present the gentleman’s car reviewer, Harry Metcalf from Harry’s Garage. Unlike Demuro, Harry is actually an accomplished journalist and also the former head of EVO Magazine.

Yeah, his voice is dumb but the reviews are good. I still think he should have reviewed the i5 M60.

This DeMuro is absolutely terrible to listen to, haven't succeeded to complete one of his reviews yet. -My ear hurts, and he speaks to you like you are and idiot. Not to mention how arrogant he appears.

However, Harry’s Garage is amazing and clearly a lot of substance behind, a true journalist.

As a parent with kids who learned how to drive, and vivid memories of what I did with a car when I was 17, NO ONE in their right mind would give one of these or a Tesla to a 17 year old boy or girl.

Buy them a 4 cylinder Camry that's a minimum of 10 years old.

Better yet, make them buy the car and pay for repairs, insurance and maintenance. You'll be amazed how differently they treat a car when it takes their money. ANd yes, that's what my parents required of me.

I was not/am not a fan of his review of the i5, but I do appreciate his logical arguments here. I think some of these points are also about setting expectations, ensuring that there’s better clarity about range and variability in different conditions, and of course charging infrastructure. I 200% agree that I’d like to see a lot more information about battery health in the grasp of owners could really help. I don’t know why this is not more obvious - many of us are data geeks and putting information about battery health in the hands of owners could incentivize behaviors that prolong capacity and life.

The thing Harry misses that was important to me was I wanted to stop being a source of emissions. Regardless of price/cost, this part has value to me. Being stuck in traffic burning gas is just not something I was excited to do any more. All of the points here are important to address however. Worth a watch.

A few kids on our street got cars as high school graduation gifts. My son had to pay out of his pocket. His 93 Ford Probe GT was only $1,500. We helped him out with some repairs to get it in good driving shape. It also has a manual transmission. I drove it home for him, but then he was on his own. In the meantime, a boy who got a newer model Mustang, left it out in the rain with the windows open. It just sat and has mold and mildew. He never drives it. Truly didn’t appreciate the gift.
