EV’s and the cold - great backgrounder
Kyle Conner has a really great video up looking at what happened in Chicago this week around the Tesla charging challenges, and some great points about charging infrastructure, preconditioning and the need for more home charging

I think the battery needs to be warm is the main issue. I still have my Model S for the time being and yesterday got it back from service. The battery was at 100 miles of range and in Brooklyn it was extremely cold. In Tesla you can tell when the battery is cold because the regen brakes are shut off automatically and the battery wont accept a charge. A short ride home about 4 miles and it was still very cold. Plugged it in to my home charger and I usually get 29 miles of range per hour with 208 volts. I was getting 3 per hour. I disconnected drove for 20 minutes came back replugged in and was getting the 29 miles per hour. COLD is brutal on EV's. Its just the way it is.

I agree with certain points in the video for us in Chicago who rely on public charging:
•Many ride share EVs •Many people charging to 100% •First and second bullets combined On a good note, I’d say everyone has been polite and honors places |
