Tesla M3P vs M60
Sooooo, my Tesla M3P goes back in March after 2 years, and I’ve got my i5 M60 coming to replace it.
Is there anyone else making the same move….?? Or anyone already made the move….would be interesting to know pros and cons between the two… |

Hi,
I had the Model 3 AWD LR, so not the performance do it might not be the best comparison but here it goes BMW i5 has better.... Suspension - feels more solid and less bouncy, the Tesla's suspension felt brittle to me (and I had to replace the front control arms while under warranty) More interior space - it's more spacious for both driver, passenger and rear occupants Tech - ironic right? My BMWs can parallel park, Save parking paths for tricky parking spaces, has wireless android auto/car play... Power rear trunk - I had a 2019 Tesla so mine was still manual Heated steering wheel - my Tesla didn't have a heated steering wheel Luxury - price points are completely different but the BMW is still more luxurious Interior lighting options - BMW has finer control on interior reading lights and has beautiful ambient lighting Sunshade for panaromic sunroof Easier and safer car seating latch points - I didn't like the design of the top tether point on my Tesla - it never felt secure and so was hesitant putting car seats in this car Blind Spot Monitoring System - I never got used to Tesla's screen based camera's and icons; having something on the side mirrors is definitely more intuitive as I'll be looking at the mirrors when I'm changing lanes Tesla is better... Storage space - the frunk, and the deeper storage space in the trunk, Tesla definitely has the BMW i5 beat on storage Rear seating area has a flat floor - the BMW i5 has a "transmission tunnel" in the middle seat area which is annoying. More front space storage - storage options and space in the Tesla center console is easily twice as large as i5 Charging Infrastructure - well know advantage of Tesla's Initial acceleration - Tesla's first .5sec of acceleration is more linear and immediate than i5. The i5 isn't as brutal initially but then builds speed quicker Tesla has Netflix It's easier to setup phone as "keys" on the Tesla Last edited by syslakm; 01-06-2024 at 02:43 PM.. |

Thanks for the reply. I feel the handling on my Tesla is atrocious at higher speeds, feeling really unstable. So looking forward to the BMW again….👍🏼 |

Netflix if you pay their outrageous monthly fee. If they stream it for free, then it is an advantage.

Not free. Need to sign up for Tesla's "premium connectivity" $9.99/month or $99 annually plus have your own Netflix membership. Same to view Disney Plus or Hulu. Nice to have the options, though, which BMW lacks. |

My home subscriptions are HBOMax which is free with AT&T cellular. Peacock which is free with Comcast internet. I do pay for Paramount Plus for Star Trek. I dropped Netflix a while back. I would like to have the ability to choose the apps that I want. Unless we get iDrive 9, that won’t be happening.

Though honestly, the benefits of Netflix were moot for my use case - i have a PHEV for long road trips, so most of my charging was at home, so most of my Netflix watching occurs at home! |

These aren’t really the same car of course, the M60 is a 5’er, obviously bigger car feel and presence. The Highland M3P is supposed to have better ride over the previous version (which you probably had), and neither has as good a ride as the i5, so that will be a change. The Telsa is agile, so you need to get DHP on the M60 to get that fun factor that for me was missing on the car without.
The Tesla refusal to use a dashboard screen or HUD on the M3P continues to make the statement that it isn’t a driver’s car (plus those haptic turn signal buttons), despite the fact that it appears in videos to be a lot of fun on the track and it is 1000 lbs lighter than the BMW. I like the performance customization possible in the M3P menus (not crazy like on Ioniq 5N), and I think that car would be a hoot to own as like a canyon day car, but of course it is in a different price point and designed for a different customer. Not so nice for more prosaic duties, and definately not for back seat passengers. The i5 M60 is amazingly quiet and you do not hear the motors, don’t hear the motor tone change with speed like with other EVs, and this is another key achievement of the i5 that BMW stupidly never publicizes. The quietness (and lack of 2-speed transmission ala Porsche Taycan) really brings home the pure electric drivetrain experience. |

I drove the new M3P a couple of months ago. It does have a better suspension but it was definitely hard on my back. The acoustic glass made it a lot quieter inside. It was quick and fun, but not something I would want as a daily driver. I never knew my speed or the speed limit because it wasn’t in front of me. I don’t want to drive at speed and take my eyes off the road. The steering wheel turn signals were impossible. It was really stark inside. I felt the screen controls were weird just for the sake of being weird. I don’t want to move a little car icon forward and back for drive/reverse. It’s more work and just gimmicky. If I was still in my 20’s and easily swayed by flashy over functional, then I would probably find it cool. Now, I want to drive a car that is functional, sporty and comfortable.

To each their own... I do love having Netflix, Disney Plus, etc. in the Tesla and wish BMW would improve their streaming options.

Can’t you just watch your own streaming through CarPlay?
Funny how this thread is about streaming and not about driving. |

I thought the thread was about Tesla (M3P in particular) vs M60 which is very broad and encompasses all aspects of the vehicles. And no, you cannot watch your own streaming through Car Play. Car Play functionality supports specific apps only, and these are not streaming apps.
