Can someone explain "traffic camera monitoring package" (or something like that)
I've seen something like this referred to but I can't recall the exact name or find any information about it. Just wondering if it's something like the front view from the car when you stop at a red light like they have in the MB S class. Sometimes depending on where the red light is, it's hard to see and the display on the car's screen makes things much easier.
Does anyone know what the feature is called in the G60 and have any information about it? Sorry to be so vague but, as I said, I just can't seem to remember what this is called. Last edited by PsychDoc; 01-02-2024 at 05:36 AM.. |

The only thing it might be is the traffic camera app which warns you about speed cameras
That was made available for idrive 7 ( I have it myself) and no doubt is still available for idrive 8.5 in the g60 It’s a subscription service costing around £25/$25 per year in certain markets Well worth the money in my opinion If it’s not that, no idea |

I am still waiting on my 540, so not sure if that feature is still there. When I get my car I will update this thread. |

Cool. If 8.5 is like 7 I personally think it’s best to display the warnings in the HUd if you have one, you really can’t miss it then ( as opposed to being in the instrument cluster)

That's what the traffic camera information is, a warning of public cameras ahead. It still costs $25/year.

I have the 1 month trial active Doc. It is not as good as waze though and I am not going to extend after the trial. Several speed cameras did not show up in the app and it does not warn of pot holes or police on the side of the road like waze does.

I will say I have had notifications of road hazards through the nav system - it seems to connect through google/local transportation info sources so I’ve had a couple of “debris in roadway” notifications, and then this was a “wait, what?” the other day: |

Mine has worked well. It notifies me of radar cameras, road hazards, etc. It’s a lot cheaper than my speeding tickets from cameras. I will keep it.

I do not know about Washington but here in New York they have mobile speed cameras that magically appear at road work sites or wherever they think there's money to be made.

We also have this app. But radar information is not allowed in Germany, which is why we use WAZE. Not me as a driver, of course.

How is waze updated with these mobile cameras
I mean if you are in the car alon driving, you can’t notify waze as your busy driving So who does? Relying on a passenger to do so? If that’s the case, surely only a few would bother to do so? Intrigued as to how this info gets into waze |

When I'm in the car, WAZE runs via Apple CarPlay. When a mobile radar station is detected, “someone” reports it to WAZE. Only takes a few seconds.

The "co-driver" presses the orange button and then the image from above appears with the dangerous situations.
Mobile radars look like this. Only 100 or 120 km/h are allowed there. Otherwise 300 km/h. |

This traffic camera thingy is the same tech that G30 LCI offers. I had it 3 years ago and it was borderline useless\inaccurate (against waze) back then.
Its cheap enough to give it a shot again though. Also, a cool conversation starter...look what my car does in addition to eyes monitoring and self parking LOL

The car did notice a cop on the side of the road today. Kind of interesting as it was not even reported on waze yet. I almost think there is a built in radar detector in the car.
