i5 Sliding Moonroof Opening Range?
Opened my roof today (not that it is warm in NY, but just to check it out) and it barely opens. Photos below.
It this seriously how it is supposed to work? And, if so, why bother? I expressly did not order the Executive Package because I did not want the panoramic roof, as I like to be open to open the moonroof on nice days. |

It doesn’t even seem to be 50%. It’s more like 1/3. Ho does that make any sense? Again, what’s the point of it? First big disappointment with the car—makes the moonroof pretty much useless for purposes of actually opening it to let sun in.

That's sad news to hear. I wonder why car makers do that. The sunroof on my 2013 Mazda opens all the way. I bet we have frivolous lawsuits to blame for that because someone crawled out of their sunroof one day and got injured.

My Jaguar only opened part way, too. I ended up never using it. I went with sky lounge just for light in dreary Seattle. Looks great from the back seat.

I thought the same. It’s hardly an opening. I was wondering if it was broken. You can’t even pop your head out. Maybe it’s a safety feature for our own good.

It’s pointless. What a bad design. I wondered if it was broken too and tried to initiate the sunroof reset I had to do on my 550 once when it got messed up. The same procedure (holding down the vent position button) does not seem to work.

Press the open button again. It opens only about halfway due to buffering/passenger comfort. If you open it further then it will open a bit more but you’ll have more turbulence.

Look at how much roof you have behind the sunroof to the antenna. The sunroof opens inside the roofline instead of over it, so it needs to be able to clear the antenna cable from the antenna on the roof. From what I hear ont his forum, the first time it will open 50%, then if you pull the switch agan, it will open like 3/4 of the way. That's all youare going to get.
In my M-B it opens over the roof in order to preserve headroom in the back seat, So it opens wide. |

On my car, the first picture is after 1 full click, and the 2nd picture is after the 2nd full click. That's as far as it goes to my knowledge. I should add though, that it looks a lot more open to me from the inside compared to when looking at it from the top.
Page 100 in the owners manual explains why there are two steps.

I've driven 50-55 mph with it open on both settings and didn't hear any buffeting. It's possible I suppose depending on what other windows are opened, but I haven't noticed any difference yet.

Right but that’s because it’s only half open. I bet if it went back further it would be worse
