The luck of the draw?

Michelin, Continental, or Bridgestone? Crap shoot time when you first lay eyes on your 530i. I know there are differences…big differences. Can anyone spell them out? Should any of these be avoided? Thx!

If those are the three tires they're putting on the car there's no bad choice. They're all excellent.

Now if they were still sourcing Goodyears that would be another story. When I got my current 540xi there was a possibility of getting those and I told my SA that we'd have to have a talk if the car came with the Goodyears. Thankfully, that was not the case, as the car came with Pirelli P7's which were not bad for a RFT. Looking forward to driving on regular tires after 10+ years on RFT's.

But Michelin, Conti and Bridgestone are all top tier tires.

If you opt for the 20 inch wheels do you get a specific tire?

Mine arrived with the Continentals….was hoping for Michelins….but maybe I’m too old school. They’re fine…and part of the draw to the new 5 was the farewell to the runflats. I specifically wanted the non staggered 19” tires. The ride is superlative altho there is some transmission of pinging on irregular surfaces. I keep the PSI at the recommended 35.

From what I have gathered the i5 M60 comes with Pirelli P Zeros for the 20" All Season non RFT wheel selections.

The slight offset of the lug nuts and the spokes on your wheel looks awesome but it is doing a number on my OCD!

Not universally - my 20” AS non RFT are Hankook’s.

Cool, I was hoping there were other possibilities. The Pirellis are expensive. The Hankooks also seem to provide better protection for the wheels. I had these tires on my long gone Pontiac G8 GT.

“The slight offset of the lug nuts and the spokes on your wheel looks awesome but it is doing a number on my OCD!”

Gee thx for that, Trevor! I’ll never see my 5 the same.
Question: Where else does your OCD show up? LOL

I prefer Michelins for summer tires, Nokian for winter. I ordered with all season, figuring I will get new sets when I need them. My car came with Pirelli P-Zero which are EV specific. It’s just roulette when you are on the assembly line. Your dealer might swap them out if you truly hate them.

I specifically wanted the non staggered 19” tires.

Was it the 19" that you wanted (which I understand), or the non-staggered that you wanted? Any benefit to having non-staggered tires?

I noticed that the 19" wheels on my ordered eDrive40 are also non-staggered but not sure why they are different than most of the other options which are staggered.

There is no “right answer” to the question of Staggered vs. Square. It comes down to personal preference, and in many cases there is merit to both. However, it’s more common for drivers to swap from a staggered to a square tire setup, both to change vehicle handling and performance, and to improve overall tire wear and life.

I chose the base, non upgraded wheels, if for no other reason than aesthetics: All of the larger wheels for this car looked too “Flintstonian.” They would’ve been deal breakers for this old guy.

one of the reasons that I opted from the the new 5er(530i) is that it shares the identical tire size as my X1(U11). 245/45/19. Obviously wheel width is different, but at least I can swap or reuse the tires between my X1 and my upcoming 530i. (yes, I know that's probably a silly reason to pick one car over another)

I sincerely hope that I don't "win" the lottery and get Hankook tires. It's already too late to make any changes to my build, so I guess I'll just have to pray to the BMW gods that they put Michelins on my car.

The Hankooks I had on my old Pontiac were very nice. Thick side walls that also protruded past the rims to help prevent curb rash. They are not bad tires at all.

Thanks! Maybe I'm just overthinking this.... if BMW thought it was good enough to put Hankook tires on their bread and butter sedan, that's good enough for me.

Do you have the ELECT symbol on your Pirelli tires. I have 20 inch all season Pirelli on my M60 but not the ELECT symbol. Just curious.
