BMW seems to have a unique interpretation of the word "begins"

As in code 150 - "production begins."

I was so encouraged when, six days ago I learned that my car was now in this status. Recognizing that actual production takes about two weeks it seemed likely that I'd move through the next several steps over the next 7-10 days. Alas, six days later I'm still seeing this same code - - no apparent progress through the production sequence. So I call the genius line and am told that "production begins" doesn't actually mean that anything has "begun." Apparently it can mean any number of things, including, but not limited to, the car actually being produced. It can mean they're assembling the parts, they're really, really seriously considering beginning production or that there will be a crescent moon that evening.

So here I seem to be in production limbo with no ability to get any reliable information. Ah, the joys of buying a custom ordered BMW. Yes, a first world problem to be sure as the car will certainly be produced in the very near future, but....

Yep 150 means they are thinking about it

Yeh 1st world problems!

Once it really does get going it goes really quick , I’d expect it to be built within a week , you’ll then be fretting about when it getting on the ship and getting delivered which seems to be the longest part.
Just have to wait , the most painful part!

Yes.
Takes about a week to get to code 176.

Follow these steps on Google Chrome and… voila! You can see the exact date the car will be completed (production date):
https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...4&postcount=51

Once they actually start assembling the car (exterior body assembly begins), it’ll probably take 2-3 days to go through all the steps to reach quality check (my experience).

It will go by quickly. Mine was 2 weeks, but I knew my production week by asking my SA. It was scheduled for week 43 but it was delayed to 44 because of Tanzanite Blue.

I’m currently in port stateside but get to sit with zero progress or updates. I got to port last Thursday. Even my SA can’t tell me when my vehicle will be shipped. It’s just limbo.

The instructions that LVBMW posted work perfectly to show you the date when your car will me assembled. Mine was spot on for a build on Dec 4.

Glad the info is helping some. I know once I knew the build date I was much less likely to obsessively check the tracker daily.

A few things that might be helpful:

You need to be at least in the "production begins" state with a VIN

Start the process from the "My Vehicles" page and not from the page with all the tracking dots with all the different stages

There is no window per se that will open to show build and timeline data. You have to dig a bit as below.

Once you've done the first few steps and refreshed the page, you will see various headings under the "Name" column in the box on the right.

The one that has the relevant information (at least for me) started with "Forward?TargetURL=2%Fmybm..." When I click once on that, various data appears in the "Response" area just to the right.

One section in the "Response" area starts out with dataContent": {
"ProdVehicleDetails":

Scroll down a bit in this section (which contains information about your build, color, options, etc.) and you will ultimately see:

"prodDate": "2023-11-07", <--Here is the date your car will complete production

Thank you. Somehow that finally worked. But here's what's confusing me. Even though my car "began production" on 12-14-23, this page now tells me that the "production date" is "2024-01-24" which would seem to make no sense as the actual production of the car typically takes no more than two weeks and this is over a month away. Plus I'm not sure how to interpret the "production date." Is it an indication of when the production will start or finish?

However, it's definitely my car, as it has all the options, etc that I ordered but the dates seem weird as I'm already in "production started" status. Several weeks ago I had been told that the build date was going to be the third week in January - but then it seemed that my build got moved up by over a month to 12-14-23. Is it possible that the original build date never got changed to reflect this early start or is it that the car really isn't in production at all right now and will, in fact, be finished (or started?) only by 1-24-24?

All quite confusing, but thank you so much for your step by step instructions on using this Chrome work-around.

Any thoughts on what's actually going on here?

Glad it finally worked for you! As you've already heard from BMW, "production started" does not necessarily mean what we might think. I also went into "production started" status about a month prior to the build date. Dealer allocations are tied to a specific build week, and your promised week of the third week in January basically fits with a 1/24/24 production date plus or minus a few days (this is the date the car is completed and off the assembly line). I would not expect your car to be completed until 1/24/24. The site has current up to date information from the factory as far as I understand.

The actual "production" of the car (painting, physically assembling it on the assembly line, quality check) took about 3-4 days for me and started a few days prior to the production date I found using the above process.
"Production started" means your build is locked, and BMW is basically gathering all the parts they need for your specific build so that when it finally does roll down the assembly line everything is there. I guess some parts might need to be ordered and might take time to arrive at the factory, and there are many other cars in the queue ahead of you. That might explain the long lead time.

Your build week is when production is completed. It seems weird, but that’s what it is.

I think when production "starts" (and you're locked out of making any changes) are when your option choices are sourced, sub-assemblies (your dash with appropriate trim, for example) are scheduled/built, etc.

When you enter the assembly line, it all gets put together *really* fast, but that's a function of getting all the ducks in a row first.

My car was about 3 weeks from Production Begins to QC. You've got some holidays happening in the middle.

As of today still reflecting "production begins." The folks at the genius line have no information and just keep offering canned, script-driven responses. All that seems to be clear and unaltered is that the car's production will be completed by 1-24-24.

Several of the genius agents have rather sheepishly suggested (without saying it in so many words, of course) that those "steps" you see in the MyGarage section are really worthless and that you often see the car going from production begins status to completed overnight; implying that you rarely see the car moving through all those intermediate steps.
So, long story short, the wait continues with no useful information forthcoming from BMW.
Still looking toward delivery to NY around the first two weeks of March.

that is correct, once the production actually begins it goes through the build quite quickly. You will probably miss it unless you sit in front of the comp refreshing all day.

Others have referenced the status 150 as when the order is locked and BMW has ordered parts from suppliers. Think about all the possible combinations that are being ordered from around the world and the planning it takes to execute this flawlessly in a manufacturing plant and at suppliers. One hiccup and it shuts down the assembly line for possibly hours, costing millions of €. So yeah it can be frustrating if you’re following it that closely but that’s how the process works. I was one day late in changing my F30 order from the optional manual transmission back to standard automatic and I was talking on the phone with someone in Munich that day when she told me it had changed to 150 that morning.

If you’re in the US, I highly recommend taking delivery at the Performance Center in Spartanburg. You get a half day of driving instruction in the same model as you ordered, off road in an X model, an outstanding delivery experience, and a tour of the Spartanburg plant. The factory is truly impressive. Almost forgot the hot laps as a passenger in the M5 with one of their instructors at the wheel. What a ride.

I love your choices, PsychDoc…..Reckon I’d configure my 530i essentially the same. As a matter of fact, I did! Which interior trim did you go with? Enjoy second by second of the process. The joy is in the voyage of getting from point A to point B!

Hi, I went with the dark oak high gloss wood trim and the smoke white veganza interior. Luxury seating package and B&W audio.

Nice…same trim here….
Does “luxury seating” give you softer, more padded seats?
