i5 Wheel Options
Am I the only person concerned about upgrading the i5 wheels beyond the 19" ones because of the reduction in range and because they will absorb bumps better than 20" or 21" wheels?
I'm planning to order an i5 eDrive40 and I opted for the M Sport package so I could get better looking 19" wheels than on the non-M Sport version. The 19" M Sport wheels aren't my favorite looking wheels, but I really don't want to sacrifice range or bump absorption just to get a slightly nicer looking wheel. What do you guys think? Here are the wheels I plan to pick, but I could be persuaded to a 20" maybe. :-) http://racing.skykingtech.com/19inchwheels.png http://racing.skykingtech.com/WheelOptions.png Not sure why the pictures won't show directly, so I posted a link to each of them. I thought about this too - I’m running 20” on my M60 and can say that the ride has been nothing but superb and I’m exceeding BMW’s range estimates in my first 2wks of ownership. Given that, I’d vote for getting the 20”.

Thanks for the feedback! The 21 inch wheels are my favorite looking but I'm too nervous to go there. Maybe the 20s are a good middle ground.

I don’t disagree, I didn’t want to give up any range but two major items made me move to 20’s, all season tires for the Midwest and I feel like the size of the vehicle needs a larger wheel. I also like the look of the staggered all seasons where the rear tire is a bit wider.

I've found the ride to quite good on the 20" rims and all seasons. Like, very shockingly good. The roads in my area are what one would expect of NJ. Things that I would hit in my X5 that would be quite rough are smooth and absorbing. Was very surprised by this.
Now, how well they actually hold up when pothole season gets in to full swing remains to be seen. |

I saw these wheels on an M60 in a YouTube video but don't see them on the BMWNA site. Are these available in another country perhaps?

Those are performance parts so you would have to order separately from the parts department of your dealer. Or you can order them when you order the car to be fitted with those directly.

So the 20" AS option doesn't say mixed (staggered). Are they the same size front/rear then? Asking because here in the SF Bay Area, the highways are grooved and staggered wheels have always resulted in my cars wandering all over the lane.

I’m in the Bay Area too and regularly drive between the east bay and peninsula and have had zero issues. I have the 20” AS option with 245/40 R20 up front and 275/35 R20 on the rear.
