I've heard they're a significant step up from the sports seats which are a bit on the hard side.

I have them in my G30 and wouldn’t have another 5er without. Nappa is vastly better/softer than Dakota leather on the outgoing model and the articulated seats have many more power adjustments. The G60 has Merino leather vs Veganza. I’m not paying $80k for fake leather so Merino is a requirement for me. And the while the adjustable upper backrest is no longer available, I’m waiting until Silverstone as a color choice. I have Mocha nappa and while I love it, will switch up colors when I replace it. The only thing that doesn’t make sense to me (other than cost savings)is that some of the ZLS adjustments are via idrive rather than seat buttons, so you have to lean forward to interact with idrive as you’re trying to adjust the seat.

If you haven't sat on the veganza seats you may want to try. They're surprisingly supple and soft. And if you want the ventilation with the seats, for some reason it's only available in the black leather, not the other colors.

I was very much the same as you. But after I A/B test i5’s veganza and merino leather side by side at my dealership, my conclusion is merino leather doesn’t feel any better.

To be super clear, this isn’t a compliment to veganza, instead it’s a complaint to the quality is merino leather BMW used in the i5. For god sake my Volvo XC60 has much softer and luxurious feeling (Napa) leather.

I originally had the same view. If I’m paying $80k for a car it must have real leather. Then I sat in an I5 M60 at the dealer. I assumed it was the merino leather but it was the Veganza. My SA said the veganza is also much more durable and won’t crease as easy as the merino leather. So I went with veganza.

Only with the Luxury seating package.
Other colors also work with sports seats.




BTT: The sports seats are simply too narrow and therefore too uncomfortable for me. I am 6 3 and 210 lbs.

I sat in the M60 at the Welt in Munich back in September for most of 45 minutes while a product specialist gave me a detailed explanation of the car. It had black Veganza seats. Nice enough but if you’ve had Nappa, as in my G30, or Novillo as in my E90 M3, then it’s very difficult to step back to lesser leather or sensatec/veganza. So I won’t. But if that’s what you want, have at it…it’s your car.

Your experience will be ruined if you don’t get luxury seats. NGT2 can attest to this also especially from my mutiple texts. My biggest complaint from driving various loaners throughout my years are the standard seats.

I agree.

And it’s not really about the luxury seating package. The must have, for me, is the multi contour seats. But to get that, a lot of times it requires a whole package.

On my 2018 G30 (540) I had multi contour seats wrapped in Dakota with no ventilation or massage. It was very comfortable.

Well…unfortunately BMW discontinued the multi contour seats for the G60. You need the new 7 series for that.

Great question. I'm planning on ordering an i5 and still have not had a chance to sit in both the regular Sport seats and the luxury seats on a dealer lot. I don't see a lot of cars on the lots near me and the ones that are there don't seem to have the luxury seat package.

I am assuming they will either give you more controls for the seating and/or feel more luxurious so I'm going to get them. I'm swaying towards the luxury feel from this car compared to a sporty or firm feel most of the time.

True! But I’ve sat in and driven the new G60 - the i5 M60. Those seats were comfortable and they are NOT the same as the sport seats/base seats from previous G30 or other models like the 3 series, X6, etc. that I’ve had as loaners.
