Timed laps by BMW Korea

i5 M60

i5 eDrive40

Interestingly, in either single or dual motor formats, i5 and i4 ended up with almost the exact same lap times.

Not bad for a 5000lb car with modest tire fitment to beat a M240i.

Yeah, that is interesting, and disappointing IMO. I was concerned the i5 M60 wouldn’t perform any stronger than the i4 M50. Have there been any other reviews comparing the two?

There’s no question the interior of the i5 M60 is spectacular. I sat in one the other day at the dealer as I waited for my iX summer tires to be swapped out. Exterior-wise, some angles look better than others, but that’s basically true for many cars these days

Correct, not under warranty.

Went with one of my favorite all seasons around, Continental DWS06+ for all year around. Will remount the summers upon lease return

Why are these on the track.

Listen to what James May had to say about this.

These really struggle to change direction with all that weight, especially in the chicanes, even the M60.

I am more impressed that the i7 xDrive60 matched the M240i in track times.

yeah, driving skill was not that impressive. Didn't brake enough before turn-in so had to brake more at mid-corner. Not the best way to maintain grip and momentum. Watching his feet he didn't feather the throttle much, just either full throttle or no throttle. You have to believe he had several practice laps prior to the one recorded/posted but apparently didn't learn much about handling a 5000 lb car.
