Veganza vs Merino Leather
This will be my first BMW, and when it comes to vehicles like this i always felt you needed to option them with the leather upgrade. Havings sat in a I5 M60 at the dealer with the Veganza i'm not so sure... It felt like real leather to me and my SA mentioned it's much more durable than the Merino.
My only complaint is color options. If i go Veganza id stick with black. If Merino id be tempted to order the copper brown. Does anyone have any pictures of the copper brown? Did anyone order Veganza and regret it? |

I did an extended test drive in a car with Veganza. I felt good and didn’t smell. I prefer the two tone colors, so I went with copper brown. This shot is from myBMW app, as my car is still at the port.

TLDR: I’ve compared veganza and merino leather for i5 side by side. The softness of merino leather is no better than veganza.
Background: I wanted to get the merino leather upgrade but I was debating whether that’s worth losing the luxury seat package. So I went to my local BMW dealership to A/B test the two materials. To my surprise, there’s no perceivable difference in the softness between the two materials. The only difference that may exist is the surface smoothness that I don’t think anyone would care. My biggest disappointment for the merino leather is that doesn’t even feel as luxury (soft) as the Napa leather on my 2018 Volvo XC60. Give 1) the ugly grey accent on the merino seat and 2) you lose the luxury seat package, I wouldn’t get it even if it’s free. |

The Merino has a more "natural" texture, since it is taken from the high quality hide of a Merino sheep, and is not coated or processed with any artificial dyes. It's as close to a "real" leather as you are going to get. Nappa has always had a nice feel, but it has artificial dyes, as do all of the other leathers that BMW offers, except for Rolls Royce or Lavalina in Alpina cars.

The Vengaza feels very soft. Close to higher grade leather. For reference, I drove my ‘22 M3 with Merino leather right before and after for reference.
Vengaza is in my opinion 10x better than Dakota Leather/Vernasca Leather. And 100x better than Sensatec. It doesn’t have a leather scent though but on the plus side, I don’t think it has any scent. |

If you use the online configurator, you can configure the luxury seats option with two of the Merino leathers: The Black/Atlas Grey and the Brown/Grey combo.
