M2 Comp replacement suggestions needed

I could use the forum's help. Back in 2020, the bride bought herself a new '20 M2 Comp and has only put 3,000 miles on it since. It's not meeting her needs any longer and we're trying to brainstorm on a replacement.

We currently have a '23 X5 45e, a '23 Jeep Rubicon Unlimited on 35s and an older crew cab diesel Chevy.

So far we're looking at:

1) BMW X3M Comp: seems like a logical step up from an M2 Comp as we want something bigger and more practical. Test drove one earlier this week and it's nice. However, never owned a "small" SUV before.

2) Range Rover Sport: if she could pick anything, it would be this. But I'm very concerned about reliability, high cost of maintenance and tanking depreciation.

3) Cayenne: I'd look at a 2021+ CPO but likely the Base model. I read they are reliable put Porsche dealership aren't always lovely to deal with and maintenance will cost me.

Anything else we should consider? Again, we need something bigger than an M2 that's safe, comfortable and that can seat four adults.

Audi interiors appear to be a bit dated compared to BMW. And not sure yet if I'd join the Mercedes family.

Thoughts?

I know you said no Audi, but since you are considering a Cayenne...what about a 2020+ CPO Audi SQ8? Comfortable, fast, handles well for a big tank, and has a nice sounding V8. 90% of what the Cayenne is, but with a way better engine (compared to the base Cayenne).

Why do you need all of these big SUV's and trucks anyway? What about a larger sedan? LCI G30 M550i?

Love the 9Y0.1 Cayenne after one year of ownership. It's a spacious luxury SUV that performs well in all trim levels. Options matter with Porsche vehicles, so look for the most loaded model in your price range and miles window. Leather interior and air suspension are universally appreciated among owners.

Lots of helpful owners on rennlist so ask questions freely.

X3MC has a drony exhaust which I got tired of after 15 minutes. I rented one for a week in Germany. Didn't like it.

Thoughts are to not trade that in to a stealership! Make sure it goes to someone who would appreciate it someone like me for instance, lol...

Keep the forum in mind when looking to unload her

Side note if you do look for a cayenne get one with manual window screens. The automatic ones break constantly and flap when they fail. Awful. Otherwise load that shit up.

Can tell you've not been married long. Get the Disco, go used, CPO to cope with the depreciation. My brother in law has one from i think 2018, been reliable enough.

Slightly OT but the X3 being "small" does my head in.

What makes say I haven't been married long?

And I only mention the X3 size since I'm on my third X5. I think anything less than the X5 would be cramped for rear passengers compared to the X5.

I test drove an X3M Comp this week and it wasn't bad in the rear seat. Sat in a Macan also and that definitely felt smaller than the X3M.

The M2 Comp is DCT. I see you have an '11 135i. That's what she originally had before I bought her a 6-series Gran Coupe that she absolutely hated and which eventually resulted into the M2 purchase.

It's definitely on top of my list. Maybe it's a coincidence, but most of them happen to be white. Doesn't seem like a lot of variety in colors. How has maintenance been since you've owned yours?

I've been playing around on the CPO Porsche site and it's great you can pull up the original window sticker. The MSRP can swing quite wildly for cars that are priced similarly used.

Tell me you’ve never been in the back seat of a X3 without telling me you’ve never been there. There are a lot of reasons to get a X5 over X3, but rear legroom isn’t one of them. Unless you’re going to be sitting 3 across in the rear you’re not going to notice a difference.

The X3M comp is by far the best option for a fun practical SUV.

If you have larger budget than get a Cayenne Coupe with the V8.

Personally I don’t think the Macan is large enough to fit 4 adults comfortably.

Have you considered CPO M5 or Panamera.

Jaguar Fpace SVR would be the other fun SUV to consider with the Supercharged V8. It sounds amazing.

My thought is that you already have three other large vehicles that can easily seat four adults. I really don't understand why you need a fourth?

Damn. Wish I was in the position to offer to buy the M2 from you. And it would kill me even more if your wife's M2 was a manual.

This, plenty of room in the back of my wife’s G01 X3.

Macan is widely agreed to have the smallest rear passenger space in the X3, GLC and Macan segment.

Maintenance is easy if you DIY. Oil/filter, engine air filter, cabin filter, spark plugs and brakes are all pieces of cake. "Transfer gear", aka longitudinal driveline coupling, oil change is easy if you don't mind laying under the car for a 2.5 hr job. Not hard, just takes time with limited space to work.

Maintenance at a dealer is eye wateringly expensive, there is no other way to say it. Indy shop would be cheaper, but not cheap. There is nothing magical about Porsches except in the minds of dealers and indy shops.

My '20 has almost 40k miles on it and so far no warranty problems other than a frozen rear washer fluid tube, which to me is a fluke. It happened to me on a 1989 F-150 in 1994, and not again until 2022 with Cayenne, having lived in cold winter climates the entire time.

finder.porsche.com is how I found my car, 2400 miles away from me. Cesar Caceres at Porsche Burlingame in NorCal is a stand up guy and was transparent and responsive through the transaction. He recommended a car transporter company, which I used (Montway) with full satisfaction.

I bought my car sight unseen except for photos and a YouTube sales video from the dealer.

I emailed back and forth on a couple of units. One dealer was scum (Conshohocken) and the rest were generally reasonable.

Get max option content for your budget and mileage targets. Air suspension would be the must-have, followed by full leather interior, if your budget doesn't stretch enough to include SportChrono, soft close doors and the techno goodies.
