What are more expensive, French Fries or Home fries ?
On a bunk from work today, so went to my usual cafe
got the special, 3 eggs (over easy) 2 bacon *soft", 2 sausgages , 2 ham "substitute for bacon " Bacon is proper bacon not that crappy Canadian peameal, 2 white toast, coffee and FRENCH FRIES instead of Home fries French fries $2 extra... Did think at the time, as service is good and my usual eatery but WHY are FF extra, if your getting the same amount and both products are potatoes and done on a griddle or deep frier 1st world problems I know |

Home fries are chunks of potato
Easier prep if the french fries are hand cut, but since they're probably in a bag, no clue why they'd cost more. |

Taking all your base items out of this, and assuming you have the same amount of electricity costs to heat a griddle vs heating the oil, and the same labor amount to cut fries vs cutting home fries, the only additional costs would be the oil used to cook these. As you have about a table spoon to cook the home fries, vs the entire fryer that would need changed out constantly (every couple days to weekly).
Now, if they heat the griddle for everything else, home fries can just be added. So I'd assume an extra cost for heating the fryer. Then, we're talking the possibility of them cutting a potato for the home fries, and using a pre-made bag for the french fries, which I would assume has an additional cost. The fact you got french fries with breakfast is the real issue here. Who does that? Your a hooligan and should probably seek help. They're probably trying to teach you a lesson...

I have a similar problem in reverse at a local diner here. Their frozen french fries are way too salty for me, so I order hash browns instead with my lunch/dinner. Almost every time, they substitute home fries because the hash brown supplies are not out after breakfast. No difference in price, though.....

couple of points, ok, this makes sense !
and its bagged chips... french fries,, makes sense. The breakfast comes with home fries, I dont like eating chunks of potatoes for breakfast, now, if it was say a HASHBROWN, ok now your talking, crsipy outside, soft inside. But if I have a choice, it's french fries. I mean how else do you mop up the yellow of the eggs ! Quote:

I would have thought fries are cheaper. Probably not home made. Dump a bunch from the bag into the fryolayor. Done.
Ps I would have got pumpernickel or Rye..

Pizza for breakfast is common. Some people buy (or make it themselves) pizza and regularly have some the next morning for breakfast.

And I'm not talking deep dish pizza. One of our members is guilty of this. I'll not name him, for he knows what he is. |

Hey, watch it. My mother eats pizza with a knife and fork, and George eats chocolate with a knife and fork
