can a non-xDrive 530i survive the winters around the DMV area?

can a non-xDrive 530i survive the winters around the DMV area? It's been a while since I've had a rear-wheel-drive-only car. although, I currently do have a new 2023 X1 xDrive28i as my 2nd car...

Thanks!

If you have winter tyres I don’t see why not

As has been noted before, 2 wheel drive with winter tyres is better than 4 wheel drive with summer tyres when driving on slippery/ snowy roads
Obviously xdrive and winter tyres will be the best

You will be fine. It doesn't snow much here anyways and when it does it shuts down.
Just make sure you have good all seasons or do winters. In both cases you will be fine.

RWD with all the safety systems isn't the rwd of 10yrs ago.

it's been a while since I lived there... does the area still go bananas with just half an inch of snow on the ground?

With winter tires, I had a RWD F10 550, and it was excellent in the snow. Now, we don't get much, but the tires made all of the difference.

The federal government just closed offices and everyone works remotely. Schools will do the same. Those that still have to get around will have way less traffic.

Still the same but not as crazy.

when I moved away from DMV area, they were just beginning to build the I-495/I-95 Express Lanes. I thought that was a good idea, in theory.

However, I was just chatting with my friend who still lived in the NoVa area. She was telling me that she "accidentally" took the Express Lanes from Tysons all the way to just past Potomac Mills...

the one-way toll was almost $40!!!

If I were a cartoon character, my jaw would have literally landed on the floor. It just blew my mind.

Well, it's hard to take them by accident as it's clearly marked your on a toll road. However, they charge by congestion so the worse it is the more you pay unless you carpool/slug.

So yeah, toll rolls are common but you can avoid all of them in NOVA and get around.

I believe her husband bought "accidental use of Express Lane" story...

Then again, I did take a couple of wrong turns in the NYC/NJ area and ended up in the wrong tunnel and bridge.... resulting in over $50 of tolls within 2 hours. (but that was my own stupidity)

back to the snow and BMW situation.... I still have a vague memory of the 1979 blizzard... although I was just a kid back then. all I can remember was being stuck at home for 3 days.

Yeah, it may slow down a day or so but nothing sticks. They will brine the roads and traffic will take care of the rest unless it's snowmageddon.
