X6 Practicality (New Car Advice)

Looking to replace my wife's GLC 300 4Matic for a bigger car. We used to have a ML350 and made the mistake of thinking the GLC would be big enough to comfortably seat 3 in the back or carry stuff in the trunk. It's not. At all. At the same time, I'm trying to lure her into getting her first BMW but the only SUV she will consider is the X6 because of how it looks (that rear end ).

My main question and where I'd love some input, how practical is the total cargo space in the X6 as compared to more standard SUV designs like the GLE or X5? My primary use would be loading common FYI supples from Home Depot (lumber, drywall, large boxes, etc).

Any input from personal experience would be much appreciated.

You would probably get better answers in the X5/X6 forum.

I would have no interest in an X6. Looks like a turtle. Lacks the practicality of the X5. Cargo space is only about 20% less but in the real world, taller bulky stuff is biting to hit the sloping roofline. If you don’t really need to carry tall bulky stuff and rarely have backseat passengers, you can put the seats down and will probably get done what you need.

This.

X6 if fugly and cargo space is meh.

Get an X5. I would never get an SUV smaller than an X5. The X5s really are not all that large. If the family was bigger(1 kid 1 full size dog) the X5 would not work for us. The only 'cool' thing about the X5 is they made a few diesel versions which you can delete. I guess the S63 is neat as well...assuming someone makes tunes and parts for it.

We actually bought a Cayenne S after test driving an X5 40i x drive MSport and it is smaller in the cargo area. We bought the SUV not the turtle version — Cayenne offers the same useless style.
