Wireless Charging Improvements?
Anybody know if the wireless charging has improved in the 2024? I have a 2021 540 and it's basically useless.

Not sure what improvements you’re looking for but the G60 has 2 trays in front of the cup holders fo phones. The passenger side is just a tray to hold the phone, doesn’t charge. The driver’s side charges and has cooling ridges/holes so the phone doesn’t overheat when charging like my G30 does.

The issue is a combination of (1) insufficient power to iPhone and (2) high power usage by iPhone running wireless CarPlay and mapping software (Waze, Google Maps etc). Wired charging is a partial fix, but not full. And unfortunately, wired CarPlay not possible. BMW should really offer MagSafe as an option for Apple users in lieu of Qi. https://www.******.com/threads/wirel...14#post-206703 |

Magsafe adds magnets to Qi wireless charging. There's no magic to magsafe

Not exactly true - "BMW uses Qi chargers at 15w, however, for any non MagSafe charger, apple will throttle back charging to 7.5w." Difference ion power provided is significant. Whatever BMW provides, it should send 15w to iPhone or else it's really deficient - and needlessly (unless they are actively saying FU Apple and Apple users).

The throttling is done on Apple's side. It's not BMW, it's Apple wanting you to buy devices that support their ecosystem and not the Qi standard. |

My big point is that its a relatively simply fix for BMW, but unrealistic to believe Apple would change its policy to placate BMW users. |

I was thinking about getting a MagSafe mount but the design of i5 vent doesn’t seem practical to mount anything.

I live with my iPhone overheating on the i4. I try to remember to remove it from the charger at some point during long trips so it can cool down. It only got so hot once that the iPhone stopped working for a period of time. It's an annoying situation, but one I learned to live with. My frustration is that BMW could so easily have made the car more Apple friendly and elected not to (going back to the point that Apple throttles Qi charging that is not MAgSafe).
