F1 2023: Hungarian GP - Hungaroring (July 23)

Schedule:

Circuit:

Hungaroring Budapest

Quote:
Budapest
When was the track built?

Work began on the Hungaroring in 1985, and the track was race-ready just nine months later. The Hungarian government had originally considered reviving the old Nepliget park circuit in Budapest in a bid to host Formula 1 in the country, but in the end decided to create a purpose-built facility instead.
When was its first Grand Prix?

The year was 1986. Nelson Piquet won the first F1 race around the Hungaroring, famously slithering his Williams around the outside of Ayrton Senna’s Lotus to take the lead.
What’s the circuit like?

The lack of straights at the Hungaroring often sees it compared to a karting circuit – and it’s true, the resemblance is uncanny. With several series of corners to string together, teams opt for Monaco levels of downforce, with a well-sorted chassis tending to be rewarded over horsepower given the short straights on offer. It’s a challenge many of the drivers relish, however, with finding a good rhythm key to setting fast lap times.
Why go?

Hungary in July is usually hot hot hot. The good news if you’re at the track, though, is that there’s a water park close by – the Mogyorodi Aquarena vizi szorakoztatopark – which should be a good place to cool off. Away from aqueous activities, the circuit is only 20km from Budapest, putting you close to one of Europe’s most fascinating, storied and lively city centres.
Where is the best place to watch?

The track is built in a natural bowl, a bit like the UK's Brands Hatch. That means that any of the grandstands located on or around the main straight should provide a view of other parts of the track too, giving you more F1 bang for your, er, forint.

So this might get interesting...
DEV out, RIC in. Not that I expect any points right away.

Last years race was interesting, Max starting at P10 and driving to P1.
The year before that (2021) was even more interesting with that crazy bowling ball style crash from Bottas, removing all Hammy's competitors from the grid.
And subsequently that crazy restart where Hammy was the only car on the grid! Everyone pitted for slicks
Hammy not winning that race but coming in 2nd (Ocon won, he pitted for slicks) for sure was one of the reasons Hammy loosing the championship in 2021 (the other reason was his brake setting error at Baku)

So my prediction...:
1. Max
2. PER (he must feel the pressure now that RIC got a seat at AT )
3. NOR (after that fantastic last race)
4. LEC
5. ALO

If he starts from the pitlane as the only one, theoretically it's possible that a crash takes out the complete field?
I guess Bottas has to try a little harder

Prediction for Hungary is tricky for Ferrari, I want Charlie to do well but there is a spanner in the works somewhere.
1 Max
2 Lando
3 Checo (on the podium at last

Got to embrace the rumor...

"Red Bull is patiently waiting to establish a “Dream Team” by 2025 or 2026. Liberty Media is strongly advocating for top teams to field two genuinely competitive drivers, aiming to revive the excitement of the sport, even if one team maintains dominance."

Into '26 Max should have evened up the wins score with LEW then who knows about this 'dream team' with Max and Charlie, that would be great.

Horner is Checo's best friend now and that should give him more strength to get closer to Max hopefully keep the two McLarens at bay.

Upgrades being added to the RB19's for Hungary as Max describes it as covering every aspect and every opportunity for Checo not to get caught out again.
Not looking good for the other 18.

I love Danny. I’m going to enjoy seeing him back, but if he is terrible in the AT (which anyone likely would be) then you guys probably won’t have to be annoyed next season.

Liam Lawson maybe gets Nycks/Danny's seat next year.

They put Danny in because RB wants to have as much options as possible to potentially replace Perez next year if he doesn't perform.

But indeed having 1 rookie in the lower tier teams helps getting new talent to the top. We all know by now that Ricciardo will never be WDC (however, that's not what RB is looking for, they need a Bottas to secure 2nd place)
