Porsche stripped of win at Glen!

This is really lame AF but any day a P car is stripped of a win and hands BMW a win, is a WIN! It was a great race, all 3 hours of it.

Rules are rules I guess, but 1mm out of tolerance? I don't think BMW should be celebrating too much.

Porsche Penske to protest Watkins Glen penalty

“Following post-race inspection at Watkins Glen International, IMSA has penalized the No. 6 entry in the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen citing that the front skid wear of the No. 6 Porsche 963 was less than one millimeter outside the legal tolerance,” Porsche Penske Motorsport said in a statement. “The rear skid wear was noted to be well within the legal tolerance. Porsche Penske Motorsport plans to collect all of the data and follow the protest procedures.”

Sources at BMW, however, indicate that they believe PPM will come well armed with data to the protest, and aren’t quite ready to celebrate the marque’s first GTP win until the protest has been settled. The IMSA sporting regulations do not give a specific time period for when such a protest must be decided.

Surprising Porsche didn't measure accurately before the race, but..reasons to be cheerful for BMW M Power and a sure big step forward to the Le Mans 2024 entry.

Massi evidently didn’t go to same race director school.

What happened to that doofus ? Managing racing at the local greyhound park ?

If the stewards' regulation measure rule can't get into the wing slot then you-are-out. Cheats never prosper.

Who Massi? He got scapegoated by the FIA for directing a race instead of a parade. They then appointed new people too afraid to penalize hammy. Hasn't worked tho, scHAM still gets his a$$ handed to him every race weekend. So, all is well

There is also the issue of rained out qualifying and limited testing to determine block wear.
Also it is the first time these cars have run at the Glen so it's hard to extrapolate the wear in a 6 hour even. My two cents is there should be a penalty but forfeiture of the win seem way too severe to me. I expect Porsche Penske to get the win back but take a hit in points?

The winning overall team in this year’s Rolex 24 At Daytona was hammered by sanctioning body IMSA on Wednesday for major rules infractions.

Meyer Shank Racing will be able to keep the victory, but was hit was a slew of penalties for manipulating tire pressure data.

According to an IMSA release, the No. 60 Acura at Meyer Shank Racing has incurred a loss of 200 team and driver IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship points, loss of all team and driver IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup points and loss of race prize money. Also, the team was fined $50,000, team owner Mike Shank was placed on probation through June 30, 2023.

The penalty does seem harsh, I was just making a statement. The other teams accounted for unknowns like "limited testing to determine block wear." Porsche got it wrong and BMW got it right. Everything else is just excuses.

BMW finished less than 1s behind

That 0.1mm could easily translate to 1.1s over 6 hours, not accounting for tire wear, fuel consumption, etc

It's fair... Coz bmw won
