I am soooooooo P.O.'d at eBay right now...
I sold some camera equipment on the 'bay this weekend... I had to keep lowering the price until it moved, and finally it sold for $800 plus shipping. That's not the bad part. The bad part is that they charged me over 13% for the privilege. OK, so that's gone up from around 10% that it used to be, and that's outrageous, but the part that really twists my panties in a knot is that they charged the 13% on top of the final price including shipping and taxes!!!! So the guy ended up paying $890 all in, and I got charged on all of that... I'm not seeing the taxes, I'm paying the shipping right back out, so my effective rate is now 15%.
Criminal. It's absolutely criminal. Geez. I guess I should have found a camera forum like this one that doesn't require a fee... heck, I could have still paid a fee and sold it for $750 and done better for me and the buyer. I know, it's my own stupid fault for not reading one of the 276 email messages that they send me every day to notice that they raised their rates. But I think charging me the fee on top of the costs that don't go to me is just wrong.

Yes, my last eBay transaction was maybe six years ago when I sold a vintage guitar. The buyer swapped parts out of it, then said my guitar wasn’t in the condition I said it was and then reported me. After about two months, it got sorted out and I had no recourse or say in the matter. I cancelled my account after that. I had no issue buying or selling prior to that in 20 some odd years, but that didn’t matter. I’m not a salesman, 95% of my transaction were purchases. I also quit PayPal for them reporting all transactions and I had to provide additional paperwork for taxes showing I actually lost money on a set of wheels I sold for $4k.

I don't sell there anymore if I can help it. Ebay is aggressively pro-buyer in disputes so if someone does scam you, you will get screwed. Plus the fees are huge. I'd much rather sell it outside ebay at a lower prices where the buyer gets a better deal and once a deal is done, its done.

Even Craigslist is crazy. People no longer can meet in the middle it seems. Everyone wants to sell their used items for new prices and buyers only want something for free or close to it. One of my final transactions there was when I was selling my PS3 and games for a very crazy low price, like $200. A person claiming to be a single mother kept trying to pay like $25 and wanted me to also deliver it. I told her I couldn’t do that and she started berating me saying how I was personally ruining her kid(s) Christmas. I keep wanting to like and trust people but keep getting let down.

generic cheap stuff on ebay that was actually cheap 4-5 years ago, are now on aliexpress for cheap.
I think most sellers are tired of ebay, and jump the prices crazy. latest purchases was n54 belt protector and servo for my RC. Both item, same brand, were twice the price on ebay. I dont mind few %, but fcking twice. |

You can find the same products on AliExpress that they sell on Ebay for a quarter of the price. And I find that they have a better selection of products than ebay. AliExpress has a lot of products that Ebay used to carry before that they don't anymore. You can still get door lock pins with the bmw logo and/or with the M Performance logo, and the door striker covers on AliExpress. Ebay no longer carries them. If I need something quick I buy it on Amazon, if I don't need it right away, I buy it on AliExpress. I can't remember the last time I bought something on eBay. |

Serious question. What is ebay good for nowadays? I can not think of a single reason why they need to be around? Maybe because I stopped buying and selling on there years ago. Even several years ago with the ebay listing fees and paypal fees it was not worth selling crap on there anymore.

You're just getting started my friend....just wait until you get a message from the buyer about *spin the wheel and insert BS here*
eBay is terrible, it's basically a junk mart and spammers dream. But the larger issue is the general population just isn't worth selling to. I had a guy message me yesterday on eBay about an item I sold to him back in January. "Is the item still coming, UPS says it's undeliverable to my address." Oh you mean the address that was automatically transferred over from your PayPal account to the shipping label? I could go on and on. |

Ugh. Don’t even get me started with eBay. Absolutely ridiculous with their “no-questions-asked-buyer-always-right” policy. Of course like most people here, lost money on a beautiful Porsche headlight that’s in the garbage now. Called them multiple times, always transferred to “managers” that somehow don’t exist any longer when you have to call back. The time and energy wasted, I’m done with them.

I’ve sold a few items - Golf clubs, sport equipment and an espresso maker. All went well but there is a risk especially with electronics when folks say they don’t work.
EBay is very buyer friendly and that can harm the seller if folks are scammers. |

It's also a great way to waste a significant amount of time on a Sunday evening when you don't want to be with the family and need to surf on your computer. A friend of mine often complained of Monday morning bidding remorse on things that he had no business trying to buy.

That would be because occasionally, under duress, Ebay will enforce trademark rights and block those sellers illegally using trade-marked items such as fake BMW parts. Amazon will do the same, when taken to task by manufacturers. Ali Express doesn't seem to care.

...because they are a Chinese company, owned by Alibaba (another Chinese company).
I suspect that many of the eBay stores are buying their merchandise from AliExpress, and reselling it at a 3X-4X markup because some online customers don't look at sites other than eBay for all of their purchases.....

I dabbled a little bit in ebay selling before 2019, and it was okay. Mainly just sold some spare parts and stuff I had from dirt bikes and ATVs. Then they changed the policy so that you couldn't use a Paypal account to sell, and you needed a separate bank account so they could just take refunds directly from that account. I said F that and haven't sold anything there since.
I still use it a lot to buy things though, because often I'm looking for used parts or parts that aren't available new anymore. I really never had an issue selling, and haven't really with buying. With used dirt bike, ATV, or power equipment parts it's usually pretty clear what you are getting though.

AliExpress is a Chinese company like vreihen16 mentioned, and they don`t care about trademark rights. Why pay $100.00 for OEM door lock pins when you can get them for 20 bucks on AliExpress. They work/look just as good as the OEM ones. Its not a performance part that you have to worry about them breaking any time soon. |
