You can see the design really well in the bmw blog review on the bmw official slides. Very nice surfacing on the side. And the shark look is back!!

This is the only line that matters to me:

My only gripes so far would be two things:

1) Range could be higher. Yes it is decent, but I’d like to see BMW aim higher.

2) Add a non-M AWD model. This applies to the i4 as well. There are plenty of shoppers (particularly in the Northeast) who refuse to buy RWD cars. The car would be more accessible and more successful if there was an entry-level AWD option.

A lot of anticipation and hype given how good the i4 turned out. Might give the i5 a serious look but price and wait time is going to be a significant factor - i4 wait list is still a year+ and that’s after BMW supposedly increased production.

It’s not ugly, another plus. Need to sort out a reliable charging infrastructure first in the U.K. before I will ever go anywhere near evs

Agree with 1.

2. I live in Sweden and do fine with RWD. We get snow and I drive to the mountains for skiing. Still fine with RWD.
Anyway, according to this thread there will be an xDrive 40 with SOP in March next year.

Very excited for the i5! If the range is around 350 miles this is a serious contender for my next car. Loved test driving the i4 M50 but was not sure if I wanted to give up some comfort features that the (X) 5/7 series offers.

Very well said! Hoping a loaded i5 M50/70 stays below $90k. We bought a loaded 2023 X5 45e for $83k but not sure I would pay $90k+ for a 2024 X5 50e… If I’m spending close to $100k I might as well buy a Porsche.

RWD is definitely fine, put on snow tires and you have a competent vehicle for winter. The problem is purely perception though. The regular Joe Schmo who buys an i5 or any vehicle is not gonna want to swap between summers and winters and doesn't know much about cars. All he'll see is RWD and immediately say he's out because its not as practical as AWD in his eyes.

Hopefully they bring an xDrive 40 to the i4.

BMWBlog states they are aiming for a 295 mile EPA range on the i5 eDrive 40.

Happy this is not another car that was voted into production by BMW board to increase profit margins to become another marketing gimmick like the XM. Looks promising for a change.. FYI- the dual headlights from E generation that everyone loved and what made BMWs look like BMWs. There now other companies building LED headlights that look just like them…
