i hate the front. if it didnt have a Merc star on front, it would pass of as one of those early day Korean car exec imitations.
the interior looks great on the other hand, a step above the old car. the new design of merc is like the new 'old' design of BMW. bac in the days, when previous gen S class came out, I thought 'wow, what a nice, pleasant looking car'. The e class that followed wasn't as good but still was a coherent and pleasing design in my eyes. Just like BMW of the day with Z4 was nicely shocking but cool. now BMW goes back to toning down its design and Merc gets all brutal on steroids. BMW looks like it lost its balls, and Merc is trying too hard. Audi meanwhile is sticking to making 'pretty' cars that are boring to drive, and yet that's what people are buying more and more...

I still say the rear overhang seems out of proportion with the rest of the car (too rear heavy). Overall shape (exterior and interior) is pleasant but the detailing is a bit off (e.g. dual fog lights, audi-esque LEDs).
I think the car would look more attractive with a dual headlight design versus the quad. It just appears all too contrived. There is no law that says the E class have to sport quad headlights (first seen on the W210). The W124 and 123 did well without them.

Is it just me, or does the back of that car remind me of one of the Hyundai models...
Older Elantra maybe?

Hmmm. I don´t know. Have to see this one in person before I decide. Some things I like, some others have to grow on me. Sort of like a mini S-Class/Maybach with funny front and rear lights.

I like the little wrist pad for the Comand control wheel in the center armrest. That means they have probably thought out all the ergonomics pretty nicely in the cabin.
Might be weird at first to have the transmission lever on the steering column. But if you look closely in one of the pics you'll see the + and - paddles shifters on there, too. At least moving it to the column leaves lots of space in the center console. |

With better pics, live viewing and the real AMG version (63 or whatever) I think I'll like it more!
ATM it just looks like a premium-taxi... The current c-class sure does look better than the first pics released. ________ Xxx tube video ________ Cheap glass pipes ________ Marijuana seeds Last edited by Hula-Hula; 08-27-2011 at 09:04 AM.. |

I worry in so far as I can discern from these pictures that the new E-Class may be getting too big and luxurious for producing a serious AMG. Don´t get me wrong, although I would buy the likes of the S63 or 65 AMG since I like AMG better, these are buy no means anywhere close to what I consider a performance sedan. The current E63 AMG is on the line where you can still get some decent performance, but a larger E makes that unlikely and may have crossed the line to more of an S than a sports sedan.

Hmm. Mixed feelings.
Elegance model: Of course I would bitch about the quad foglights...I mean...seriously? Leave that to WALD. Avantgarde: Exterior-wise, at least from the front (which is all we have to compare with the Elegance model), it looks much better, despite the fact that the only difference is the foglight shape. AMG package: Really helps make the car look sportier. Not crazy about the rockers judging from the pic; they look swollen in the rear. The bumper lines line up better with the character line. The good: -They don't look like pre-facelift models (by that I mean they don't look like they were purposefully designed with flaws, like being too boring). The overall (front) bumper shapes look interesting and thought out. -More good news: the interior. While it's not as interesting as it could be, it really has a similar feel to older Benzes (like my friend's 500E, which is an awesome car in every respect). If it has the solidity of the C-Class, but with higher-quality materials, it should be a winner. I like the inserts in the door. They look upscale. My one beef is that it might be too blocky, maybe too simple. The bad: -The wheels. They're the usual pre-facelift fare, meaning they usually don't look that good (although that's not to say that all pre-FL stock wheels from MB and BMW are bad). They're not noteworthy in any sense, and don't really help or take away from the design. -The rear bumper. It's bland. Definitely left room for improvement for the refresh. -The taillights. I could dedicate a paragraph as to how crappy they are. In my opinion, they should offer a different grille for the avantgarde and AMG variants (or at least the AMG variant). They should offer the more aggressive grille with fewer slats and a star integrated in it.

I've said it elsewhere, it looks like its nosediving when its standing still, it must be upside down when you actually hit the brakes.
Mercedes is just trying to phase in Hyundai's buyout of their (dying) company

Isn't the point of the idrive clone to avoid having 90,000,000 buttons on the dashboard? That car has it, and 100,000,000 buttons around the plastic wood and pleather trimmings.
