you guys are going to miss out on saving the planet. again. /s

https://www.cnbc.com/2022/09/21/gm-t...ing-90000.html

General Motors
will close reservations for its electric GMC Hummer pickup and the forthcoming GMC Hummer SUV after more than 90,000 of the vehicles were reserved, the company said Wednesday.

Closing the reservations is a way for the automaker to attempt to fulfill the current list of reserved vehicles, which extends out to at least 2024. The number of reservations is notable because of the starting prices of the vehicles, which range between roughly $85,000 and $111,000.

GM’s decision follows Ford Motor
shutting down reservations for its electric F-150 Lightning pickup after hitting roughly 200,000 units.

Your title is premised on an incomplete understanding of global emissions, I think. It will take much more than EVs to reduce emissions sufficient to stabilize atmospheric GHG concentration, so there will be plenty more opportunities. Most people probably get that. Transportation is just one piece of the puzzle.

Cue the cow fart jokes.

Satire was apparent..

So that's 175K rental vehicles recently pledged by Hertz, 90k orders by Hummer and 200k by Ford. Almost 1/2 million cars.. at approx 8000 battery cells per vehicle, these 3 order banks ALONE will require production, assembly and transport of -4 BILLION battery cells.

..that is only a small corner of the potential market

We already have supply line issues and not enough workers, truckers etc.

Where on the planet can that be scaled?

How much raw material (lithium, cobalt) is needed to fulfill?

The real satire here is the GMC HUMMER EV. Clearly GM poking its finger in the eye of Uncle Sam for forcing the close of the HUMMER brand over a decade ago.

Well done GM, well done

If it's GM then production of the EV Hummer will add to carbon emissions, not reduce it.

EV won't reduce anything notable in the atmosphere.

EV's are just relocating emissions.

Speaking of emissions I have been reading that EV's tire particulate emissions is far worse than non EVs due to heavy batteries. I can see it now in CA with EVs having small pouches behind the wheels like horse drawn carriages in NYC to catch their dumps.

I bet allot of these hummer reservations will fall off as flipping prices are coming down to $175k squeezing the profit margins, especially now that you can’t sell it the first 6mo unless buyer is ok without warranty. I have a Hummer reserved because it’s carbon free. Lol! Heck, my wife ordered it because she thinks it’s cool and is very easy to drive as an suv. She was able to drive one and was blown away. These damn EVs are not good for the planet, complete opposite. By the time we can actually get it, probably going to get another ICE. The more inlearn about these EV’s and how they chew through tires, I’m just not sold on it.
