Wait a minute. It's called an "Obesity Tax", yet anyone who buys a non-diet drink would have to pay more, regardless if they are obese? I don't see how this tax bill gets passed.

Talk about COMPLETE ignorance of facts. Diet soda contains chemical sweeteners (splenda/sucralose, aspartame) that flat out should not be ingested by humans. Diet soda makes you fatter than regular soda. If you need a sweeteners use stevia, a natural herb with no affect on blood sugar.
How about we educate people about eating a real diet and have food companies actually list exactly what they are putting in foods. |

That's bullshit. I hate the synthetic sugars they add to Diet Coke, there have even been links to cancer with that shit.
Just because it has more calories doesn't mean fat people drink it. It's actually the other way around. Most fat people drink diet because they want to get skinnier. |

I haven't drank soda since I was about 15 so this doesn't affect me, but the reasoning behind this tax is extremely retarded. I also think that the argument of which is more unhealthy, regular vs diet soda, is also retarded. Trying to make the argument between artificial sweeteners that may lead to cancer (I think most tests were done on lab rats where a human would have to ingest ridiculous amounts of artificial sweeteners to equal that level in humans) versus regular soda with 40g of sugar per can that will overtime help contribute to insulin resistance and/or diabetes is like arguing which poison is more healthy.
How about we just tax your fat ass if your BF% is over a certain percentage when you go for health insurance, and you will be charged a premium just as if you were a smoker since you will undoubtedly contribute to much higher costs.

I wish they would refuse to feed HUGE people at fast food joints. If they can cut you off for being too drunk, they should cut you off for eating too much (crap).
We have a really backward health care system in this country. It's atrocious. |

This was what I was trying to say, but more in depth.
I worked at McDonald's a while back for a short stint and the thing I loved most was when fatties would come by and order Supersized whatevertheheck and then ask me for a diet drink at the window. People are just so unbelievable. Quote:

Then "everyone come get you BMI measured" and if they choose not to? death? hey I hate obesity too, but I think this tax is silly. maybe we should just make car seats and airplane seats smaller. Just kidding. But things like making them pay for 2 seats = perfect |

To gather data on everyone's BMI is quite simple. Whenever a person goes to the doctor they can easily have thier BMI calculated. It takes like 30 seconds, and then the data could be pooled together. |

Then you have fat people bitching and complaining about discrimination. Their point is why do I have to pay for 2 seats when a normal weight person doesn't. Well with all due respect, the normal weight person sitting beside you doesn't have his/her 74 pound ass cheek on your lap. Try explaining that to them.

Its like... One day on a crowded, busy, filthy, subway train, when they come to a stop and more people come in. In walks these 3 nuns. Obviously they are older ladies and cant stand for the whole subway ride. So this nice young man reading a paper, who is clueless to this whole situation, is tapped on the shoulder by a rather robust, "well rounded" woman, asking "why dont you get up and let one of those nuns sit down? It would be the proper thing to do." The nice young man responds quickly without even looking up, asking "why don't you get up and let all three of the nuns sit down? It would be the proper thing to do." |
