Tesla crazy residuals

My dad bought a Tesla 2 years ago and has put up 25k miles. He's ordered a new Tesla, exact same spec and he only has to give them €3700

That's absolutely insane. I've heard it's because they're trying to keep their new car sales numbers pumping to keep the stock price moving.

They can't be making much money with this kind of deal.

I know second hand prices are high but they're not leaving any margin in this deal at all for themselves

I don't see who is going to buy my dad car second hand for €3700 less than a new one when it's 2 years old with 25k miles on it

Any one know what's going on here?

I imagine people are willing to pay pretty high purchase prices on a car like that off the lot.

I know in the USA, Tesla had several prices increases in the last couple years. I don't remember the exact amounts but they were significant!
Here is quote I found regarding the US pricing: " In March 2021, the vehicle was sold for $38,490, but in March 2022, price increased by 22% to $46,990.
The mid-level trim, the Long Range Model 3, saw a 15% price increase in the same time frame, from $47,490 to $54,490. The Model 3 that had the smallest price increase was the Model 3 Performance at 9% increase, from $56,990 to $61,990."
That couple with high demands maybe explained the crazy residuals.

2 years ago my long range model 3 can be had for I believe 44k.

Now the same exact car is about 54k.

The price increase is due to the popularity and demand. Everyone at my job now wants a Tesla after i got mine.

I did lease my car but I do wish I got the model y instead. But I think my next Tesla is a plaid so I can wait.

Yeah rising prices would lift the second hand values but I just don't know who is buying the car second hand for 3k less than MSRP with 25k miles when you can just order a new one and they are not taking that long to get

Tesla's price changes happen almost as quick as their stock price.

One of my friends just got a Model Y he had been waiting on for like 9 months. A week in and he says it's boring and he doesn't like it. He could sell it and make $10k. He still has his Bimmer and would just go back to driving that.

You can't even put in an order for a LR, Tesla took it off their website due to a backlog of orders.

All of Europe has estimated delivery for LR of Jan 2023 - Mar 2023. That is a 5-7 month wait.

When did this happen? My cousin just put his order through 3 weeks ago. Said estimated delivery November.

He’s getting the plain Jane white LR.

its what the market is right now, especially with vehicles that you have to order/dont see many of on the lots.

Trucks, for example, are something that if you have a newer model, with not a lot of miles on it, you can get a trade in price that is pretty close to what a new one costs. just you may not get that new one for 6+ months.

A lot of it has to do with some cars, teslas especially, as more of a status symbol than anything. So whats the difference if i spend 60k on a new tesla that ill get in 6 months, vs an old tesla that i can drive off the lot today and impress my friends with tomorrow.

I bought my model 3 performance stealth for 50k minus $1750 rebate. 2 years later and 50k miles later I can sell it for the price I bought it for.

Sick dude!

I thought about getting the performance but people have said the ride quality is pretty harsh. My model 3 is my daily so that is important to me.

I purchased acceleration boost a month after i got mine so 3.7 0-60 is still fine by me! I still smoke mostly everything in my commute from a light easily.

Fair enough, it just seems crazy to me that someone can't wait a few months and will pay full boat for a car with 25k miles

People are stupid. I ordered my 392 wrangler with an $8k discount and can sell it for about $10k over MSRP. You can still order a 392 wrangler with an $8k discount.

I don't own a Tesla, but I can't believe the Model 3 Performance suspension is harsh. In every test where I see it compared against really sporty ICE cars, it has an absolute ton of wheel travel and body roll. Everyone's reference point is different, but I'd expect it to have a plush ride compared to a BMW M car.

Nope. The G80 absolutely has a smoother and more compliant ride than a Model 3 Performance.

Model 3 and Model Y don't ride particularly well.

As they say rising tide raises all boats.
Just look at the crazy prices for those Hyundai EVs. It's BMW money... in some cases even more. Makes the I4 a pretty good value.

My experience with the 3 was that it is devoid of driving feel. Apart from the typical EV immediacy, it might as well be a rental Ford. Wooden steering with mediocre interior quality (certainly not for its price point). Lots of gimmicks though to take one's attention away from the substance.
