Metal roof

I was thinking of doing metal roof on this front part of the house. Thoughts on how it will look? Why only this part, its the only part of the roof that's degrading faster, figured maybe could be a good design (it's very common to make partial metal roofs), rest of the house has solar installed.

I know nothing about roofs.
But how do you butt up the partial metal roof to the the shingle roof ? Will it be a metal cap.

probably look very good. that's a nice house.

We used standing-seam metal on our front porch, and on all dormers in our new house. It was surprisingly not that more expensive than sticking with shingles. Just ask your roofing contractor. Ours was hand-crafted by the same subs who did the shingles. They did a good job using pre-colored metal stock. It does create its own set of issues in an ice-storm, to be honest! But the bushes and gutters are recovering!

We have a standing seam black metal roof on a cottage and tbh, it gets very dirty from rain and leaves and stuff so it needs to be washed often or looks like hell. I like the look, but I'd never do one again.

The first thing I did when I bought the house was to have a metal roof installed. If you live in the snow belt, it's a blessing as the snow slides right off.

I wish I put something like yours on our cottage instead of standing seam. Looks like yours wouldn't show dirt and leaf stains at all.

This is what my cottage looks like 3 weeks after pressure washing it. Guess it's time to ceramic coat it again, but I don't really feel like it today (or most days)

Still looks new. Nothing sticks to it. I just have to clear the gutters every Fall.

It's not an investment, I just want it done because I think it might look good. Doing that small part shouldn't be that expensive

The pitch on yours does not help, leaves get wet and stick to the surface. I like the look it goes well with your cottage.

May not be a problem where you are, but they are LOUD during thunderstorms.

Part of their charm!

We used a grey color a little lighter than the shingles. In three-and-a-half years I've not had to do anything to it. Nothing sticks to it or discolors it.

For those thinking about a metal roof here is good summary and Matt Risinger is the person to listen to if you are looking to renovate or build new. He is always evaluating the next best thing in home construction and provided some good solid advise backed up with data. The house my wife and I are working on building is going to have metal roof, I am tired of asphalt shingle roofs, they never last as long the they claim and can be easily damage in a storm.
