I'm remembering 5 classmates who died in Vietnam. Four of them were in my graduating high school class of '65. One was drafted the same day I was, so we shared many thoughts while enduring the induction physical in L.A.

Today isn't the only day I think about them and the tragic losses.

Thank you for your service. Most people think of this holiday weekend as one for BBQ, but the few that have gone through it knows what Memorial Day was really meant for.

In some parts of the country, veterans are standing on interstate highway overpasses with flags displayed to the cars passing below. We saw four during our weekend travels, and waved/honked to show our support.....

Unfortunately, I think you are correct. Memorial Day has devolved to BBQ's and commercial sales events.

Memorial Day isn't a day to eat drink, be merry and buy discounted items at Best Buy.

It's THE one DAY we should sit down and give thanks as to WHY we can do that. ^^
