2010 Nissan Gtr Loses Launch Control
lately everyones been talking about how you lose your warranty in the gtr when you use launch control. apparently the vdc off feature should only be used to get your car out when its stuck in mud or snow. because of all the recent complaints they have chose to just take the feature off completely. so im guessing the 2009s will be more desirable now...bigger mark up.

Hopefully magazines will retest the 2010 models to see what kind of straightline performance numbers we can expect now.
Something tells me 3.3s is gonna be hard to achieve now.

To the people that take the numbers critically, it could. Not joking. Only two sources managed the 3.3s run. Most got 3.5. Now I'm guessing it'll land around 3.7s.

I'm gonna venture to say mags will be achieving around 3.8-4.0s to 60 for the 2010 model.

I call BS from Nissan!
Only to be used if stuck in the mud or snow? WTF Launching you when stuck is only going to get you more stuck,,, and who is 4x4ing with thier gtr? I mean, go get stuck in snow. Then rev your engine to about 5k, and dump the clutch, soo where you go,,,, your going down deeper in the snow. I think they should just warrenty the 2009's , and not put it on any further models. For them trying to get use to buy the,, "Only use launch control if you get stuck",,, Come on. Not in a thousand years. |

I saw one test where they launched the car not using the launch control and it did 4.1 I believe. I think it was either Car and Driver or Motor Trend.
There are a couple people who have had their warranty voided because they were driving the car around with the traction control off all the time. This usually spreads like wild fire and it gives the company a bad name. One guy said his new car needed a $25K transmission and Nissan wouldn't replace it because if the issue noted above. I can understand why Nissan is doing this. 4.1 is still stellar for this car. If Nissan would have launched it without the ability to turn it off and did 0-60 in 4.1 seconds everyone still would have been impressed. I personally am not a fan of the car, but I like all fast cars for different reasons. Nissan needs to take care of their self because no one else will. Warranty claims and bad press can kill a company.

Smart move to limit their liability.
There were multiple GTRs provided to auto mags with instructions on using the launch control. There was also a video of a high-level Nissan employee advertising it (really when you consider what he was saying) in that video on youtube with Leno. Then they say you can't use it. Even with the warranty crap, there are still consumer protection laws that are pertinent. |
