Favorite Hotels in the World

In the hope that we start to see travel open up, what are some of your favorite hotels anywhere in the world? Here are a few of my favorites in no particular order. Photos lifted from Google as I'm too lazy to dig out mine.

1.) Conrad Koh Samui, Thailand
Incredibly unique property with all buildings on stilts in the side of a mountain overlooking the sea. Golf carts transport you around the resort from building to building because it is too steep to walk.

https://www.hilton.com/en/hotels/usm...rad-koh-samui/

2.) Hotel Mueller, Germany
A favorite spot for BMW European Delivery - a very authentic Bavarian hotel at the base of Castle Neuschwanstein in a delightful little town called Hohenschwangau.

https://www.mueller-hohenschwangau.de/

3.) Hanson Bay Cabins, Kangaroo Island Australia.
Pictures don't do this place justice - one of the most picturesque settings on Earth, hands down. Sadly, most of the vegetation and buildings in this area burned last year. They are working on rebuilding.

https://www.hansonbay.com.au/

4.) Ritz Carlton, Hong Kong
Highest hotel in the world when I stayed there. There's nothing like staying on the 118th floor of a hotel. Exceptional service, as well. They noted my birthday on my passport during check-in. After coming back from birthday dinner out in the city, there was a cake in my room with lit candles burning. They had noted me returning to my room, got ahead of me and lit the candles within seconds of me opening the door. This hotel is on the Kowloon side so you get a view of the Hong Kong side, which looks small when you're up so high.

https://www.ritzcarlton.com/en/hotels/china/hong-kong

5.) Enigma Suites Santorini, Greece
Quaint little B&B style hotel built into the mountain in Fira Santorini overlooking the sea. The rooms are like caves carved into the mountain. A very unique and memorable hotel.

https://enigmahotel.reserve-online.net/about

6.) Park Hyatt Tokyo, Japan
This place has a certain specialness to it that is hard to describe. Whether it's due to the Lost in Translation connection, or something else, I'm not sure. The rooftop pool is killer and the way the hotel is built across adjoining towers is really neat. The rooms are dated and below average for the price point, however, and the location is not great for a tourist.

7. Raffles Phnom Penh, Cambodia
I loved this hotel - it makes you feel like a British explorer from the 1800's. The Elephant Bar inside has to be one of the coolest bars in the world.

Space Age Lodge in Gila Bend. Only the finest of establishments for my travels. Not my pic...I don't have any of mine on my phone.

The Conrad Koh Samui is a place I have saved to stay when we make it to Thailand. It looks like such an amazing place. Those views!

We are going to Exuma, Bahamas in May & never knew I would be so excited just to go there. I miss traveling.

I drove by this resort once. The west side of the big island is so unique with the black sand beaches and virtually no population.

Cool places!!

My top places I've been were:
Fairmont Lake Louise (got married here ) Alberta, Canada
The Wynn Encore - Las Vegas
Residenza d'Epoca Albergo Quattro Fontane - Venice, Italy (This place was straight out of the 30's or 40's. Very well kept, authentic and beautiful.)

A lot of the Amsterdam hotels are pretty neat. I've stayed at Hotel Pulitzer, which was a maze in a bunch of old row houses.

Yeah there are so many cool hotels there and will never be able to stay at all of them, haha. A lot of boutique style hotels built in structures many years old. Many of them are centrally located and convenient but I chose to stay at the Kimpton and didn't regret it. Pretty low key but well executed. Hotel Pulitzer definitely sounds cool! Other times I've been to Amsterdam I had driven from nearby Dusseldorf, Germany where I've stayed at a number of different hotels that are nice as well.

Moon Palace - Cancun

We stayed at a little Sandals property in Jamaica, mahn. That was THE BEST PLACE I have ever been. Staff were real people, and by the second day the line chef knew exactly what I wanted on my omelet and how I wanted it cooked. Not great facilities in terms of lodging, but I only slept in them a few hours each day.

The Days Inn in Bucksnort TN is really nice. Sorry, I have nothing to add but humor.

Back when I traveled for work for at&tingular, we opened a store in Jackson KY. I was asked to go there and get the store stocked, staffed and trained. There are three hotels in Jackson. Below is Paul's. I was asked to stay here. I stayed at the Hilton in Hazard 30 miles away. The pictures below reflect that much work has been completed since I was there. They showed me my room and the door wouldn't close enough to latch the door knob, because of the coax that run around the door frame for the cable tv.

I didn't go but wife won trip to Forbes Chateau Balleroy in later 90's, 1/2 way between Paris and Normandy. She said place was intoxicating. They had full staff, and no one else there. You can now do tours of the 17th century "castle" We still use the full French copper cooking set she brought back, she paid $350 lol (like $3K at William Sonoma for knock offs !!)

I can't believe I forgot Willka T'ika in the Sacred Valley, Peru.

As you check in, they show you where the hot water, coffee mugs, and "leaves" are, so you can comfortably acclimate to the altitude. It's strictly vegetarian, but communal dinner every night.

From my most recent trip in 2019:
Golden Bell Hotel in Chiang Mai Thailand:

Fun Fact: While we were there, we watched them cover this entire pool w/plywood, and then cover that with "greenery" to create a garden space setting, so that they could pass a government inspection. It was back to a normal pool the next day. I have pictures of it somewhere. Absolutely wild. We asked the front desk, and the government tells them when the inspection is coming, and there are legal companies that come and set everything up for the hotel to pass inspection, and then take it all down.

Casa de Mar Resort in Ko Samui Thailand (cost me $80/night when I booked an hour before check-in):

My wife and I took our breakfast every single day in this spot on those exact chairs. Great way to end our 2 week stay in Thailand.
