F1 Austin 2021 race
Anyone ever been ? Love insight to best seats/areas. We'd do the 3 day pass, and will be doing deposit. Any thoughts on doing "gold" ? (where you get 3 different views of track for all 3 days) Probably won't do VIP $$$$ lol
Thanks |

I went to the 2019 COTA F1 race. Had a great time. My seats were in the COTA Club, which is adjacent to Turn 12. Views are awesome. Includes unlimited food and drink throughout the day. Climate controlled. Private bathrooms. Not cheap, but I'll definitely go that route again in the future.

I went in 2019 and was in the Red Bull Pen courtesy of one of the team physicians who is a dear friend. The views were fantastic and it was full of great racing fans!

Also, other than VIP/club sort of tix, what would be the next best way to at least get covered seats? My spectrum of interest is this: -uncovered: zero interest -covered: very interested -VIP/club: interest depends on price On a side note, I've been in the club area of IMS for the Indy 500 so I do have some familiarity with just how awesome this sort of thing can be. It's just like you described...enclosed/air conditioned, super clean bathrooms, private bars, etc. Only difference was that it didn't have free food/booze but whatever.

There are a few options at COTA. I believe the COTA club (Turn 12) was a bit over $2000/person for the weekend. Turn 13 Boxes similar price. The Skybox and LOGE box were ~$1500. Owners club ~$2500. Paddock Club ~$5000. Most of these have a few included perks (e.g. walk the track, etc.).
All of these hospitality options are very nice, but you need to consider their respective views of the track. |

My sister and I have been talking about making the trip to Austin for this race. However, if those are the prices, we may have to re-think it lol.

I've been a few times but only as GA.
Personally I prefer to post up at turn 1 for the start, then 11, then migrate over to the knoll on 18 for the finish. However, at 90 minutes race time you have to kind of keep moving though. Another reason the WEC races were always my fave since you could really hang out at various spots. |

Great thread for a great race at a super venue!
I live in Austin (F1 fan most of my life, started as a Mansell fan) and have been to all but one race (aside from Covid 2020) since 2012. My tickets have run the gamut (general admission to main grandstand) over the years but I must say that I really like general admission on race day. Lots of really good viewing locations on this hilly venue with good sight lines all over. I think it’s fun to take a walking lap or 2 and watch the race from 5-7 locations on race day to really get a proper appreciation of F1 cars and drivers. Great people watching as well and it’s always fun to chat with folks from all over the world. I particularly like hanging out at the Biergarten on the hill above Turn 9 (you can see about 1/2 the track from this spot). Anyway, hopefully we’ll actually have a race this year on my birthday weekend in late October! |

Absolutely one of my favorite weekends of the year - have a blast every time. Fortunate enough to be in a Turn 13 Suite, otherwise GA looks to be a lot of fun. The COTA club offers a nice setup & view. If in the stands would probably go for Turn 15.
We stayed in the RV park the last race - will definitely be doing that moving forward each year. Not having to mess with the traffic & being able to imbibe all day is a definite plus. Previously we have stayed downtown - nice hotels, nice restaurants, lots to do. Highly recommend that as well. |

lol anyways, thinks for info. Would you still do GA if you were coming from Virginia ? THe clubs are a bit expensive when you add in airfare and hotel, plus we are doing 2 extra days for (hopefully) music scene/site seeing What about getting Main grand stand AND walking around ? Can you do that or have to have "GA" ticket to hit up the hills ? Thanks |

Yep....You can wander and enjoy the grounds all you want w/o buying an extra GA ticket. I would say definitely hike around on Friday and/or Saturday if you do the main grandstand (or any assigned seating for that matter) for race day. Plenty of time to cover everything over three days. I was lucky enough to see the start of the race one year from the main grandstand and it was unreal! The acceleration and noise, up the hill, hairpin down the hill was something to behold! The issue that I had with the main grandstand is that you spend most of your time watching the race on the big screens (or in the Velocity Lounge). Watching the pit action and choreography is pretty fascinating! I think it just comes down to money and what you want spend. Just enjoy the whole track at some point during the looonnnnggg weekend! |
