More Honors for Hamilton...

Press release:

We’re delighted to announce the @BRDCSilverstone will rename International Pits Straight in recognition of @LewisHamilton achievements this year. Read full article:

Let the butt hurt begin!!

Seriously...there are a lot of people who can't stand Lewis. Please share your reason why. I'll put up a poll based on most of what I see and hear.

Oh PLEASE...no. Not another LH thread

The way the current point system is scored compared to the good old days & the sanitised tracks with vast run off areas makes it far easier to shine

MK you clearly have too much time on your hands now that the PR section is closed

Makes sense...except why is it only one driver who has really "shined" over the past years?

Maybe because Hamilton is the best of the current crop, that along with the performance of his cars is why he's 'shined' the brightest but if the current point scoring system was applied to Michael Schumacher's career Schuey would still be ahead on points.

The "CAR" . A donkey cannot be a racehorse...

That's what MAX showed us today . He won with a RB racehorse !
Makes sense ...

OP. You forgot to include the obvious reason in your poll.

I like him though. His first season in F1 was arguably the best rookie season we have ever witnessed. The rest is history.

I admire the career of LH to the utmost.

I selected I dislike HAM for “other” reasons and for me, I am consistent. I don’t appreciate the politicizing of all we know and love. Businesses do it, people do it and organizations do it. I respect anyone’s freedom of choice and when I believe politicizing could have and or should have been avoided, I distance myself from them/it. Lewis is no exception and has earned no such exception. I find it distasteful and a poison to a sport.

Hamilton is a very smart guy...he knows perfectly well that trying to use his significant influence on matters such as BLM, climate change etc will draw a significant amount of flak.
Yet he does it anyway because he believes in the causes.
Its a brave person who puts his head up above the parapet and takes a stand knowing he will get no small amount of hate for it.

Myself I admire him for it..but then I think the causes he supports are worthy....maybe that makes some difference.

In any case...Sports cannot expect to exist in a bubble impervious to all the crap going on around them.

It's not brave. The world is currently clamoring for this shit in every facet of life hence the proliferation of politics in every corner. It is not against the grain but widely accepted though, and the principles he used his platform to propel are frequently disputed. Folks already on pedestals aren't impervious to hateful criticisms merely by existing therefore he or any others don't welcome a foreign element into their life. They simply are doing that which others wind up in a lot of heat for.

Keep social issues unrelated to items unrelated. The very notion I can utilize the English language to distinguish how they are categorically separate should provide point enough, but alas, it's 2020, emotions are high and this will resonate with roughly only 50% of people reading this.

Well said Senor -
If we really knew the hatred that has been cast upon HAM, we would have a different view.

HAM is clearly approaching these causes in honesty, sincerety, respect and purpose.

At one point in my career, I lived and worked in an area for four years where non-locals were not welcomed (this is an understatement). It was the first time in my life that I was the one being discriminated against....until you see this and feel this, and you are living in the community, you just don't understand....that respect and the voice of all others matters.

Sports are a social activity. How can social issues be unrelated to sports? The modern Olympics games were created to foster greater levels of understanding between nations. It doesn't get more political than that.

And lastly, human rights aren't a political issue...they are a human issue.
