im sure people say it to gauge to the OP how much real interest there is amongst the community, the more subscribers the more likely, i at least, would want to reply back on the topic at hand. who would want to look like a flake and never end up responding to some said results on tunes or modifications?

Its another sign of support (or interest or response)for the OP and the topic he/she started. I don't see how you'd get all miffed about it, its far worse to start a thread and have the feeling that no one cared about what you had to say...
