No 2021 Z4, 8 Series, and X2?

My dealer said there will be no 2021 Z4, 8 Series, and X2.

Can anyone confirm?

Haven’t heard anything about that. Maybe they’re just not taking orders currently because of their backlog from the pandemic lockdown.

Probably poor wording by your dealer. The models have not been cancelled and it's likely that the plants simply aren't building them right now due to lockdown or shuffling of resources to higher volume models.

Could be accurate, as those series weren't really selling Pre-Covid.

The words were pretty clear that bmw would not be doing it at all. He knew I was waiting to order a 2021 Z4 whenever that may be...

It could be a bad dealer tactic to have me buy now but that would be pretty low.

My understanding is MY21 production will start, as planned, for the Z4 and certain other models in July.

Yeah it’s probably a dumb dealer tactic... couldn’t give me specifics only that ‘his manager told him’

A bit surprised. I knew that the Z4, X2, and 8 series coupe and convertible would not receive successors (Gran Coupe is likely to soldier on), but I expected this after maybe a 4-5 year production run, but I guess Covid-19 could impact BMW to focus on their more important cars when it comes to production.

My thoughts as well. How much excess inventory is there right now? Likely a lot.

Yes, it has been rumored that BMW is not currently planning follow ups for the two-door 8 Series models, the Z4, and the X2 (although X2 sales have rebounded quite strongly since they hit essentially zero due to a stop sale last year). However, it would be a surprise if they were discontinued this early in the game, especially the 8er and Z4.

If the Z4 were discontinued, I wonder what that would mean for the Supra? I doubt Toyota would want to pay for the production costs on their own.

Z4 is slotted for production through 2023 if I’m not mistaken. It (as well as the Supra) were not expected to last more than a single generation as far as I’m aware. They announced the z4 wouldn’t have a refresh within the first few months of release. Around the same time they announced they wouldn’t make a z4m

Idk about the BMW side of things, but I believe 2021 Supra production started back in March. About 400 of the 2021 model year Supras were made until the COVID-19 shut down.

How were you able to find the vid? When I went to Magna Steyr's site nothing seems to be working on my end.

From old articles I thought just the Z4 and Supra would share an assembly line. I was surprise to see the 5er in the mix as well.
