Team in training?
Has anyone ever done team in training before? http://www.teamintraining.org/
It is going to be my 1st 1/2 marathon. I recently started running and was doing 2.2 Miles outside in the hot Florida sun no stops/slowdowns. I am currently training in Colorado in 7500ft elevation and ran about 6.5 miles today no problem but with occasional rests. I feel that by the time I run the 1/2 marathon at Palm Beach in December the run will not be too challenging. The fact that I am running for the leukemia and lymphoma society gives me inspiration. I have personal experience with the disease which gives me further motivation to perform. Does anyone who runs marathons have any advice or tips for me? Anything from shoes to proper diet to running advice is welcomed. The point of this post is for advice on running the marathon and spreading the news about team in training. Additionally though, if you wish to make a tax deductible donation here is my homepage for the event. http://pages.teamintraining.org/pb/palmbch08/smellman |

A friend of mine works for the local chapter. Good shoes are critical. Diet, not so much. A friend who runs marathons eats hot dogs before races.

A former roommate of mine did it and completed the San Diego marathon last year. He seemed to enjoy it, but it was tough. It is for a great cause and if you're motivated go for it.

Read more, you don't want to pack carbs. Most of the REALLY good long distance runners don't carbopack the night before, they're actually pouring in the protein. Day of, and during the race they hit the carbs. Some of those longer-acting power drinks, (can't remeber the name of the one I have at home right now) get me thru a whole day of soccer coaching/ref duties with a single 16oz serving.
A lady I work with is doing the Team in Training. She's making some real progress, but the social part has a lot to do with it. |
