Countdown to the F1 Absolute Win Record and one step closer to tying 7 WDCs
We can all agree that whether you like him or not, if HAM continues on current form with his driving and the Mercedes remains in the top 2 or 3 cars he will eclipse MSCs record of 91 wins. This could occur if he wins out this year but will most certainly occur next year.
Secondarily, applying all of the previous caveats, it is highly likely that he will tie MSCs WDC total and move on to eclipse it in the new formula. I must admit that I though these records were insurmountable until the 2015 season ended. At that point I believed that the wins were achievable but the championships would still be out of reach. The 2016 year with ROS cemented the championships being out of reach for me but 2017 and 2018 gave me faith again. I truly think that HAM will finish with 8-10 championships and 110 to 120 wins if he races until 2025. What does everyone think?

After Schumi hung it up for the first time I honestly thought no one would ever, ever come close to those records in my lifetime. I will be shocked if HAM doesn't eclipse both the win and WDC records. Obviously you can't do that without superior equipment, which both Schumi and HAM had/have at their disposal. I know a lot of people don't like Lewis Hamilton, but he is an incredible driver and I think he is great for the sport as well. I can't wait to watch history be made, I only wish Schumi was in better health and in the public eye to witness it.

I've always liked Hamilton, not sure how could anybody could really dislike him. I know I'm sick to death of watching him win, but you cannot hate excellence nor the way he handles himself. The sport could do a helluva lot worse in a champion.

I have it from a reliable source that Mercedes wanted to slow Hamilton's roll a bit after '15 and decided that Rosberg needed to win in '16. Apparently Ham was getting a bit too big for his britches according to Merc. It was a gentlemen's agreement between Toto and Nico that after Nico won he would have to retire to keep Hamilton happy afterwards, withh Merc knowing Hamilton was 100% their future. Nico knew this was the only way he could beat Ham so apparently was on board with it. Epic and highly unusual year filled with car issues anyone? |

A bit underrated IMO though is the fact that the calendar gets extended each year. In Senna’s dominant years (3# WCD 1987-1991) the calendar had 16 races each year compared to Schumacher (5# WCD 2000-2004) - 17 races on average and Hamilton (4# WCD 2014-2018) - 20 races on average. Legends like Clark and Stewart won the WCD in campaigns hosting only 10 races. Of course, if they scheduled 21 races as well in those days all drivers would have been killed before the end of the season. The point is, nowadays, a driver in a very dominant car can easily grab lots of ‘extra' GP wins compared to the old days.

I don't really count them as extra but as the sport evolves. Even when you consider win percentage, HAM is about to eclipse Jim Clark with only to Fangio, thereafter. I consider Fangio insurmountable on win percentage. Just like with Michael, we are watching history take place at each race. It's fantastic!!

Hamilton breaking Schumacher's records in wins and WDC is inevitable at this point.
The only reasons why it won't happen: 1) Hamilton decides to retire before it happens 2) Mercedes flubs car design for several consecutive seasons |

it doesnt look like he ll get bored of winning.. and actually his daily life out F1 and his teammates keeps him fresh as a racer.. Schumi didnt have these 2 things.. i hope pretty much that he ll break the record of Schumi's 91 race win even by 1.. and at the same time pole record is going higher and higher now its 87.. which is way too incredible.. 2 more titles ll follow..

I'd feel a whole lot better if Hamilton broke the record with anything other than Mercedes.

Edit: Added WDC and WCC records from the last 20 years. Ferrari have been more dominant in WCC over that period than anyone else with 10 of 20 wins. Mercedes is more dominant now but even if you include Brawn, they have won it 6 times with the WDC being won by 3 different drivers; Button (1), Hamilton (4) and Rosberg (1). Ferrari has been MSC (5) and Raikkonen (1). I'm a big MSC fan but I also admit that he had Undisputed Number One status and was a bit fast and loose with the rules. As far as being a better sportsman, Hamilton is much better than MSC. Cheers-mk

I think it all depends on the new regulations and who replaces Bottas. Also, give Toto a ton of credit. IMO this is basically Brady and Belichick.
