Young people and BMW
Hello everybody,
I wonder how many young people (>24 years) ownes a new BMW like 325i or 330i in the states. In my country in europe I don't see that. Even the kids of rich people, drive generally, a new car of course, but smaller ones like VW Golf, Audi A3... Sure there also exceptions Other countries other habits. I know that this thread is perhaps an off topic, but I am interested to know more about the mentality on this topic in the states. I don't want to critic anybody with my topic, perhaps it could be possible that I use sometimes the wrong words. (My english is very bad an I don't practice it very often. |

well i'm 26 with a 330ci(waiting for the 335!!!), but I bought an MB SLK right out of college at 21. I paid for it myself, but there were plenty of spoiled @ssholes at my school who were driving bimmers, benzes, rovers, etc. that mommy and daddy obviously paid for.

I'm 23..but have a good job...So I can afford it..Its pretty funny of the perception you get when driving this car at a young age. I got pulled over one night for possible DUI (no, I was fine but it was 2am). Cop states "so your dad let you take his car out..huh" I simply told him, no, its mine...he looked at me awkwardly and asked where I work...After I told him...he didn't mention anything else about the car...but he did tell me to stand on one one foot lol

I don't get it. When you guys are about 20 years old, don't you still have school? How do you manage the payments? I don't think part-time jobs is enough. Also, what about the costs in maintaining a car: insurance, gas, oil change and what not.
And FYI: I will be 20 this September and no I don't have a BMW.

I'm 23. I got an Audi TT for my grad present which I am selling to make the down payment on my new bimmer. So I am doing the monthly payments, insurance and gas. On all my cars though I've paid for insurance and gas though the later I had to figure into my allowance. My rents paid for school so I didn't have to do anything there and I had a monthly stipend because they did not want me to have a job. I'm pretty lucky that way, since I graduated school and i don't have any debt so I can drop money on a car payment and things like that.

I'm 23, and technically I'm doing this all my self (down payment, insurance, monthly payments, no co-sign....) but since it was my parents who put me through college that got me this great job so i can afford a BMW, they get all the rides they want.

I'm 26, bought my 330i and two houses (my residence & a rental) with my own money. I'm not a huge fan of "spoiled" kids who drive nice cars and act like they are better than kids with normal parents...how can you brag about something you can't even afford yourself? I'm not saying it's bad to buy your kids nice things, but I would hope that they would keep things in perspective and still be decent human beings.
It is worth noting that most of the younger E90post members who drive E90s are the good kind |

I'm 24 right now and have a E46 I bought when I was 22. I Plan on upgrading to the 335vert when it comes out in 07-08. :rocks:
It really depends on a multitude of issues on how young people can afford nice cars. You would find a plethora of methods on how people here can afford their cars. -Own a Business -Good Jobs -Parents -HS/College Grad present -Stocks/Day Trading -Drugs? -Selling Oranges For myself I am on my third deployment to the Middle East...I don't have much of a life in the states anyway...too invloved with work. Since I jumped ship on this last deployment to the civilian side the pay is much better for the same job I did in the military. |

There are several E90's rolling around the parking lot on my campus at school. I'm use to kids getting super nice rides 20 and under, living out this way. I use to be resentful of what they had, but you really can't be, everything works out differently for differnet people for a reason. I figure I'll have my first Bimmer when it's meant to happen. When it does happen it will be just that much sweeter having waited all this time and enduring watching others behind the wheel of their "ultimate driving machines". Of course no one appreciates the kids who have nice things, take them and stuff them up their ass and act like they've been given some divine right over society for having been blessed w/ abundant resources. But w/e, that's life.
It's also very common for people to live above their means and create whatever reasoning for why they have made certain pusrchasing decisions over others that may be more or less important, but that's up to them. Young people w/ nice cars, I'm one of them, so be it. |
