Anyone switch to a JL Jeep Wrangler?
Has anyone switched from a bmw to Jeep Wrangler JL? I tried the rubicon turbo and it's really nice!
I currently drive a 2016 328 xdrive with m sport package and I'm considering doing a drastic change to the wrangler JL rubicon. Has anyone done this, am I going to regret? |

I have an M235i and a 2018 Jeep JK
Love both of them, keep thinking I should drop down to 1 car, just to be more practical with money, but cant' decide which I'd keep. While they are both a lot differnent, they're both really likable in their own way Just Jeep, I'd miss something that can accelarate. Just BMW, I'd miss sittin up really high, and my Dog LOVES to ride in the Jeep Can you swing both ? But I'd give the nod to either |

One problem with the Jeep: they get terrible reliability ratings from Consumer Reports. For that reason I wouldn’t touch any Jeep.

I would enjoy a Jeep on a sunny day where I could remove the top and windows...preferably in SoCal.
Otherwise it would be too much of a drop in driving dynamics, style, and luxury for me to consider. That's just me though! |

I flirted with one. They are pretty miserable to drive as a car in traffic. You may be blinded by infatuation. Living day in and out with traffic in a Jeep would not be fun. It's really best suited as a sunny, day off from work, car. The ability to pull off the doors and fold down the windshield is too cool. |

I could own a Jeep as a third car, but never as a primary. The ride/interior quality for daily life just isn't good enough, IMO.
Fun toys, but not something I'd want to be in every day.

I've got a '17 Jeep Wrangler Sahara and would NEVER want any Wrangler as an only vehicle.
I sure do love it though. It's a toy...a very fun toy.

The more I looked at Jeeps and added options the closer the price creep up to BMW territory, especially if you consider previously owned executive cars or ones from the loaner fleet.

I'm keeping my 335i and getting a gladiator later this year. No doors/roof and a bed. Plus 400hp for when I want to fly in my 335i. both sticks. I was just on a trip and had a JL wrangler for a rental. While not quite bmw levels, the JLs are definitely a step up in quality compared to prior generations. I have had an xj and a tj.

I went with a 2017 JK over the new JL although I could have waited. I was hoping the tried and true model would provide better reliability and I actually enjoy the JK simplicity. I haven't driven a JL yet, but they seem nice by all accounts. I am not sure I could deal with any Wrangler as an only car however, or pay what they are asking for a loaded JL.

I had a 1988 Jeep Wrangler for six years and daily drove it. I LOVED it! I only had a couple of problems over the time that I owned it, but nothing major at all (leaking windshield gasket was the biggest issue and took about 30 minutes to fix it myself). At the time, I think I paid $6500 for it in 1991. When I traded it in to the dealership, I got $3500. Not too bad.
I am seriously considering getting a new Jeep. I really don't understand the "bad ride" or "bad in traffic" or "not as a daily driver" statements. It's a Jeep. You are buying it for what it is. It's not going to have a plush ride, it's not going to be quiet, it's not going to accelerate like a car or drive like one for that matter. A Jeep Wrangler is seven times more likely to be taken off road than any other SUV. That's it's purpose. To be able to drive to the mountains and then drive deep into the mountains. It's a state of mind and you make some trade-offs for it. And yes, there is NOTHING like taking the top and doors off in the summer time and getting caught in the rain. It's so much fun. Winter time is awesome too. Compared to the Wrangler I had, the new one is so much more refined and nice to live with on a daily basis. Plus, they hold their value better than any other SUV/truck out there. Also better than the vast majority of cars. In the end, go into it with the knowledge of the "shortcomings" and figure out if they're a deal breaker for you. Go to a Jeep forum and I suspect you'll be getting completely different responses.

My wife has a JK Unlimited and loves it. I have never been an SUV person by any means, but I have to admit I really like the Jeep. Being a guy who is more into quick, well handling cars, I could never have the jeep as my daily.
Depending on the type and amount of driving you do, a jeep can work as a daily driver. For the past few years, it has worked well for my wife working part time with a short commute and hustling the kids around places. Overall, not a ton of miles. However, a recent job change has her considering a new vehicle. A hundred mile roundtrip commute on the interstate is not where the Wrangler shines. |

I have a 2018 JL Unlimited and it is awesome. Everyone in this thread saying don't get a Wrangler as a daily has never driven the JL. It is a perfectly fine daily driver and miles ahead of older generations in terms of quality and creature comforts. I wasn't big on the turbo 4, so I got the regular V6 and it has enough power for an SUV, more power than most other SUVs in its class/price point which are mostly turbo 4's. The soft top also goes up and down in 30 seconds on the new models. The power soft top is sweet but costs $4k. The hard top is probably better than the soft top if it's a only vehicle, but you can also get the dual top option.

I have toyed with the idea as well but talked myself out of it each time. Most (clearly not all) owners have told me everything about a Wrangler is AWESOME except actually driving one. They are slow, noisy, spartan, poor-handling vehicles. If I still had my car commute, there's zero chance I would own one (20 min in stop and go traffic). Now that I have a train commute and only drive around town, I could certainly swing it. That being said, I used my substantial Jeep discount to buy my second consecutive Grand Cherokee Hemi and couldn't be happier.
You have to be willing to give up some pretty substantial creature comforts to gain the few months of weekend top-down driving.

Check with your insurance first to see if they'll cover you. Mine won't cover anything from the CJ7 back due to roll over issues. For me, it's YJ on up.

Thank you all for the response believe or not I'm between buying an M2 or JL rubicon loaded. Ideally I would like to have both but I don't know if I could swing it.

So get an M240i and the JL. It does 90% of what the M2 does and it's significantly cheaper. Budget issue resolved.

with basis of taking it mainly for off roading,
was trying to decide between JL rubicon vs 4runner TRD Pro ended up going with TRD Pro and no regrets whatsoever. had I chosen JL I probably would've regret having one just because it is so much worse to drive on the regular road vs 4runner and yet unless it is something like crazy trail TRD Pro is about 90% capable of what JL can do off road. JL as a daily? I am not sure if I can live with that. and I still daily F80 |
