Confused about R8...

does the Audi R8 come in some sort of transmission that's not 6MT? i ran into one yesterday going home. i waited for him to catch up with me. i was going about 40-45 mph, in 3rd gear. i just wanted to hear the sound of it.

i thought it shifted down but there's no way that shift is 6MT shift, it was too quick. but i think he didnt know how to drive it. it downshifted but still not low enough. i pushed my m3 a little past 6k rpm in 3rd gear and he was waay behind.

too bad most of people who buy nice cars do not know how to drive them, or choose not to race a kid like me lol

In reality, R8 is suppose to stay with a M3 in a straightline but it could be a auto R8.
There is a R-tronic auto transmission. It ain't Dsg(double clutch auto) but just a normal auto gearbox. Anyway, it's suppose to be slower then the 6mt R8.

yah i didnt hear anything i'd normally hear in 6MT. i cant believe they built that beast with a torque converter lol

very nice looking car, except for all the decals he had on it. oh well....

It does NOT have a Torque Converter... It is the same transmission as the Lambo E-Gear set up. Basically a SMG

This is the reason I never trust any of the middle eastern race vids. Rich kids getting fast cars they simply don't know how to drive.

The R8 has a very good transmition. Same thing as a SMG, and the auto Rev Matching on that thing is simply amazing.

Seriously that thing shifts faster then a blink of an eye. ( TOP GEAR REFERENCE ) lol

The R8 is a very well built car, and its far superior then any other audi i drove.

i seriously will never understand people's hatred towards an automatic or sequential gearbox. Most supercars come without a clutch pedal these days, yet it's widely accepted that a manual transmission is a prerequisite for a sports car. absolute rubbish.

I hate that too (bit of a hypocritical statement after my previous post in this thread), but I feel differently in regards to the R8.

The thing is that it has such a nice manual gearbox that I couldn't possibly fathom getting it with any other available transmission, barring a DCT.

The R8's Rtronic tranny is actually superior to the BMW's current SMG system. Much more smoother and does not feel like the computer's trying to figure out when to downshift like the SMG. It is more on par to the current Gallardo's Egear system. The car is not "fast" by comparison to many $130k cars on the market, but this is what Audi had to do to set this car up for the V10.

No its not really that fast I agree, but it drive great on bends etc... and gives much more confidence that a 911 does. Plus the looks are amazing.
