MacBook

Just wondering if any E90 owners have the new MacBook...there are stunning similarities between the E90 and the MacBook....I know his sounds weird...but I would bet there are a lot of you out there....I think the typical E90 owner would love it..just got mine and it is so sleek, industrial, understatedly beautiful and jaw droppinglu fast...just like my car...if you're in the market for a notebook ..check it out....love my car..love my comp!

The Mac OS & general design of their hardware make it worth every penny. I switched over 10 years ago & have never looked back.

In December I bought a new 17" G4 PB knowing the MacIntel's were coming out. I needed a new PB and didn't want a first generation Intel based one. If it were my "home" computer, then fine. I heavily rely on it every day at work, so I really didn't want to deal with the headache a new processor based system might bring. Also, Adobe Creative Suite is not yet a Universal Binary (run natively on Intel Mac), so that was a contributing factor.

I am seriously looking at buying an Intel Mac Mini and converting it into a home media center though.

I'm selling my 17" 1.67 PowerBook in 2 weeks, as soon as my MacBook arrives. I'm going with the 2.0 ghz model. I'm not to worried about it being the first generation, I've always been a test subject with new Mac's. I still own a G4 Cube for christs sake.
If anyone's looking to buy a 17" PM me.

Apple was often compared to BMW when the topic of market share would come up. Since Apple's overall PC market share is so low it was then said well BMW has about the same market share in th US and so on, but that was before thee iPod.

I never thought the iPod would be the rocketship that would increase Apple's market share, its products have been cutting edge even before the iPod took off. I always thank the computer gods for the iPod, it might keep Apple around longer than expected.

I hope more people will get to experience the MAC OS and its great hardware.

Macbook doesn't use intel chips yet right? Have you guys heard on the news that several programers have figured out how to make MS Windows work on macs? Now if they can use windows, and uses intel chips, what the hell is the difference between a mac and a ibm compatible comp now??? Wouldn't it just be like any other computer we got out there with just a nicer design? Oh ya, and costs twice as much as anyone else.

I'm currently a 12" Powerbook... if the MacBook comes out in a 12"... then my bank account will suffer.

I love my powerbook more than anything. I would love a macbook except as eleven24 pointed out, there's no Adobe CS and, unfortunately, I have to use office a bit and I think powerpoint would be painfully slow running with mactel emulation. If CS and Office were native, i'd switch in a heartbeat.

I'm working on presentation for a conference next week and powerpoint is soooooo slow, it's killing me!

It won't be long till all the pro software is native, especially adobe.
The only other thing that I don't like about the macbook, is they got rid of firewire 800.
I have 2 400 gig firewire 800 drives.
I wonder why they did that?

Firewire 800 is sooooo fast.

I read this past weekend that Adobe is targeting 4Q2006 to release the next edition of Creative Suite. More than likely this will be the Universal Binary Mac edition (Intel Mac native).

Me too, I also have two 800 drives -- even the new ipods lack FW support, which to me is absolutely insane - USB 2 sucks. I would do anything to not need to use office, but i have to to exchange stuff with colleagues that use PCs.

Mac inroads

Re: MacBook

I'm not a Mac Hater, but did anyone notice the remarkable similarity between Mac and Volkswagon Beetle advertisements when they came out? I would think MAC users would be insulted by the "It comes in pretty colors marketing approach." Seems like both Mac and BMW have a fierce, loyal following.

I used to think using a Mac was like driving a car with automatic transmission and no way to open the hood, however...that being said, my e90 has steptronic, no dipstick, runflat tires, and I'm not supposed to get the oil changed for 15,000 miles...

That's the beauty of a Mac.
After you fill it with ram, no need to change a thing.

I use Keynote, and I have to say a few things.

FIRST - Competitive advantage. Just got iWork 06 and it is fantastic!!!! No Powerpoint user has the graphical effects and transitions and beautiful rendering that Keynote has. Fact: I have used it for over a year and ALL my presentations make people (including my Board) sit up and notice because they are nothing like the other boring old Powerpoint stuff they see all day...

SECOND - Keynote will export a slideshow as a fully interactive Quicktime file (ie you still control the presentation with mouse clicks etc) - you can put this on a PC and run it without any problems. It works a treat, though on slower Macs can take time to render...

Here are Zip files containing a sample I created in keynote and then rendered in Quicktime both High and Low res... both rendered in a blink of an eye... remember just like Powerpoint, click with the mouse to move through them, contains 4 slides.

I hope you guys enjoy them...
Attached Files
File Type: zip BMW Sample Keynote Lo Res.zip (127.7 KB, 468 views)
File Type: zip BMW Sample Keynote Hi Res.zip (1.43 MB, 511 views)

Well, no, because the original Mac advert was "See why 1984 won't be like 1984"... sort of very much in the vein of "dull little boxes" advert running right now....

You are talking to an original Mac 128k user here, and once I even got to play with a Lisa...
